I am excited by this - but only tentatively. The thing I love about DCS is the total immersion. I hope it doesn't dilute our sim.

If this F-15E has the ability to make patch maps and do all those things I loved in JF-15..I might never fire up another sim..

In the first post by Spanky: I will say that the F-15E is being developed with the intention of being submitted to ED as a DCS branded product (ie. DCS: F-15E Strike Eagle) and of course will be one of the longest to develop.

Well, okay....they have my attention. If developesr can move their products over from FSX this way, I don't see any limitations with this DCS World scheme. Maybe Aerosoft will submit their beautiful F-16. Why three years , though? Seems like a long time, but what do I know. (Not much, just ask my wife.).

I would think that most simmers would be used to long development times by now. We all know the reasons why, small team, huge complexity etc..

Three addons at once? I hope they won't sacrifice quality for quantity. IRIS is not high on my list of MSFS addon developers. Most of their products are half assed. I think the C-27J for FSX is their best, but even that one is only good enough to remain installed in my FSX. I hope this won't carry over to their DCS addons.

I may be behind the curve on the latest news, but can anyone confirm/deny info on if these 3rd parties will be using the Simple Flight Model (a la FC2) or are these add-ons planning to have DCS Advance Flight Models (a la A10C etc)?

No one can confirm or deny.
The AFM isn't quite ready for 3rd party use yet, and that's all there is to that currently.
In terms of FM fidelity, you may or may not get the A-10C level regardless of the use of AFM. It depends on the developer's abilities in terms of not only the programming part, but getting all the needed information, which really is not easy. For example, it may not be easy to get engine trim schedules.

Not at once. They're making them in turn, with some parallel development. Three addons at once? I hope they won't sacrifice quality for quantity.

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=94266Hi everyone...
Firstly, contrary to popular opinion, I'm not dead...
The last couple of months have seen some MAJOR movements within and outside IRIS which has resulted in me putting on my 'boss' cap and stepping away from specific developments to manage the business aspect of IRIS...
The good news is that these last 8 weeks or so have provided us with unparalleled new opportunities to grow as a business and a software development team. We've hired on new modellers, texture artists and more in order to meet the increased demands on us.
One element we're well aware of is our lack of presence here on the forums... whilst I was very active in the beginning, there does come a time when I have to 'knuckle down' and get down to work. As many of you know, we are committed to DCS: World and supporting the platform, and we're indebted to the other 3rd party developers as well as our contacts within ED and TFC.
To address your concerns with regards to the lack of news, we are looking at hiring on a 'community liason' member of the IRIS team who will basically bug both Karen and myself on a daily basis for news with which to share... even if it is something as mundane as 'David's fed up and getting a coffee!'
We're hoping that this will allow me to focus my energies where they're most needed, and provide us with the ability to share more news with you more often!
I will be speaking to Wags over the next few days to decide on a firm direction for the IRIS area of the forums, allowing us to focus news and information in a more easy to digest space.
If you see some posts or forums going missing, you know why..
If you have any other questions, concerns etc...drop me a line here via PM..
Regards
David.

It has often been stated that the F-15E is their long term project and will take the longest to complete. Unless you hear it from the IRIS, it is just uninformed speculation.

Here's another thumbs down opinion re IRIS Simulations. I won't say they are "half-assed" like the other poster said, but I prefer Carenado's add-on aircraft, especially the high-definition line.

I notice IRIS is doing projects for FSX and Prepard3D. If this is so I can't imagine you will see any DCS projects for quite some time. Just an opinion but I can't see them trying to do DCS as this takes time to learn and FSX and Prepard3D they already know how to use.

Nate For a while there were rumors, as the Artist that built the F-15E model left the IRIS Team, they pulled the Proof of Concept Videos from Public Viewing as most of the content that had put on Facebook. Spanky confirmed that they are still doing the F-15E though, so everything is fine.

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1555332&postcount=14Further to my late night message last night, I thought I might give you all a heads up on what's going on behind the scenes...
First and foremost, the BD-5.... Work continues on systems and making some modelling changes here and there.. She's a fantastic little aircraft and great for aerobatics... Currently it's all about the tweaking! lol.
The F-22 is very early days, and we're hard at work on the cockpit and the exterior touches...we're anticipating a few months before we start development on the systems etc. The team is very enthusiastic about what we might be able to bring to the platform.
The F-15E is still very firmly on track. We're very proud to be developing it with Eagle Dynamics after coming to a joint agreement with the studio a couple of months back which allows us to make use of the existing F-15E external model. This reduces the development time and allows us to focus on cockpit and systems development and at the same time continues our support of the studio and their faith in us.
The Talon and Tomcat are both still in R&D stages, and we're investigating three turboprop trainers as possible aircraft for inclusion down the track.
As you can see, there are a number of items going on behind the scenes these days... including a number of elements for other platforms..
I hope that info shares a bit of additional light to last nights message..
Regards
David.

So... the end of the year is looming...albeit around 8 weeks away...
As 2012 draws slowly to a close, we've been able to reflect on a good year... we've put in place significant groundwork this year, contracts with The Fighter Collection now sees us developing for the DCS platform, whilst other new and exciting opportunities from a variety of other areas means that 2013/14 will be busy and productive for the entire IRIS team.
We've been recruiting new team members, some from within the industry and others from far afield, all bringing a fresh and unique element to our team.
Now where does that leave you and all your toys? Well, between now and Christmas, we're focused on the Pilatus PC-21. That's our Christmas toy... It's being focused on development for Microsoft Flight Simulator X and Lockheed Martin Prepar3D. Once we have those platforms released, we will also be investigating the use of DCS.
The F-14 Tomcat is a labour of love and will take a fair bit of time... we want it right..not right out now. So expect early betas around late next year all going well... there's a lot to learn as we've always said and we're working hard with ED and the DCS community to ensure it's up to scratch.
In the interim, we'll keep developing, and no doubt the community will keep on supporting as you always do.
Without you, we wouldn't be where we are today.
Regards
David.

I really think I could enjoy flying around low and slow in an armed turboprop trainer, hunting for insurgents among the mountains. But otoh, I might have to get the Hawk first, if nor for something else, then for the fact that with it and the F/A-18C the whole tactical fleet of the Finnish Air Force is represented.

I really enjoyed Iris' early FSX releases...but they often started projects that often turned to vaporware. They also seemed to have tapered off of their FSX support for their current stable of aircraft in FSX. So, while I do love the stuff I do have from them, buyer beware of their support and releases in DCS. Perhaps they were purposely weening off of FSX to better support DCS, least it's my hope. I think they're trying to solicit Dino Cattaneo for their F14, which should make for an excellent model. As for their F22, again, I hope it's modelled in depth much better than their FSX variant.

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1597827&postcount=1So... the end of the year is looming...albeit around 8 weeks away...
Regards
David
