So here I am, just logging onto DayZ when immediately a player is in the same farmhouse unaware of me. I frantically call out Im friendly and retreat out of the building just as he saw me. No shots exchanged. I call out again and he said he is friendly too. I also recognized his name so I realize he is. As he is inside I looting, I retreat to the safety of the grass (just to be safe as he might be eyeing my ghillie suit). As this occurs, I tell him someone is approcahing quite cautiously. I hold fire as I do not know his intent. I tell the player in the house to watch out. No response. Then shots fired! I see the player I was calling out to die in the chat. I was going to get revenge for him, and for my safety.

You can see him just above the hay barrel. I wait to see what he does next as he is unaware of me. I do not have the best advantage as he is on slightly higher ground. I end up losing sight. I get up thinking I see him but turns out to be a zombie. I quickly retreat and go prone thinking I just exposed myself. Minutes pass and I try to retreat to higher ground to get an advantage.

Lost him.

Higher ground. Still no sight, and Z's everywhere. May be best to hold fire even if he appears as to not attract Z's.

I love the ghillie suit. Wish I could have gotten revenge!

Love the story and the screens. I am curious though, what is the objective of this? Just "stay alive, collect loot"?

Pretty much. Kind of a make your own story type of gameplay. No objectives, just survive. I play it sparingly as not to become too bored. Don't get me wrong. It is fun to explore. Almost a social experiment as you become quite attached to your player after collecting gear and rations. Day nine for me and I found the ghillie suit, AK, 1911, plenty of food, drinks, firewood, compass, knife, meat to cook on the fire etc. Thats why the game is different. You die, you start from scratch with just a pistol, can of food, canteen.

Wow! So how do you "sleep"? Do you leave your character in some secluded area? Or does he simply "disappear" from the game world with all his on-person equipment to return when you next log in?

Yes, when you log off your character is saved at the spot where you logged. Best to log off somewhere secluded like the woods as you never know what you will spawn into. The character data is saved throughout all the servers. So does not matter which server you log into, you will have your equipment. Only thing is tents are server specific. So if you lay a tent somewhere, you need to go back to that same server. Tents are like expanded inventories to store things. But find a good secluded spot as other players can loot if they come across. Have yet to find one.
