Thanks guys , i was pretty bummed as well, i was liking my long walk and had started to think i was going to be around for a good journey. I was really let down when that dude popped me. It was like..whaaa ? Dude, not even a 'hey i have you covered, whats your deal ? ' Like snakeyes said..the bandits really do have the edge because they are not going to stuff around it is just bam! Worst thing at the moment is i started another guy with a mate from work joining me, we made it about halfway to the castle last night from Elektro. I was in a shed grabbing some gear and he was outside covering, some zeds got onto us and one was coming in the door, i pulled my mak and put four shots in it. My mate shouted out..DUDE I'M DOWN! Someone just sniped me! ..i hung around in the shed in the corner covering the door for a minute then ventured out, nobody around that i could see. I saw where he was laying dead, directly behind the zed..i had shot the zed ..and him I did not see him as the zed was in the way. So that counts as a murder and i am now a bandit, i did not want to hang around and wait 30 minutes for him to respawn and find me again so i bolted into a village and grabbed a trail of about 12 zeds whilst sprinting through like a maniac, 2 priests and a sherrif included ! I faced them in the forest, my back against a tree and fired until i ran out of ammo then went down getting munged on, eating my beans as they ate my legs. So my next adventure ..i will start as a bandit until i find a way to change back to an everday bean hunting semi-honest citizen of the apocalypse.

Ajay, the NE is not a bad place at all. In Berezino things can be risky at times, but it's not as crowded as the other cities. The country side around the town is a bit flat and barren, so cover is an issue, but to the north of it there are hills and forests. There's certainly plenty of loot between small towns, deer stands and Berezino buildings. There are other survivors there, but less trigger happy, generally well equipped and not in need of cooperation or loot, so most encounters are short with people continuing separately.
I'm playing on ANZ servers (I'm in Sydney), so maybe we can catch up one of these days (but I'm not in a bandit phase at all though, just want to continue exploring the place). I haven't played this week though, and I probably won't before next week. My nickname is SpaceMonkey in DayZ I think.

What kind of Pc is needed to run this? is it purely online? It sounds kind of fun. @CG - ArmaIi is interesting, even for a non-ground war type of perso. I haven't played it much but it's awesome in how open it is, even straight out of the can. With mods I imagine anything is possible.

Great update to the AAR Ajay nailbiting when you got to the airbase, I've been up there once with my current character just before full dark, and I saw a group of 4 guys using chemlights and flares and took that as my sign to melt away back into the woods fast... the hunger for loot attracts you to dangerous places.
Also I have to say my reaction to seeing that survivor would have been the same as you, I've had a couple of times where I got surprised by survivors/bandits and I hid and they ran by me as I lay prone in the grass not 10 feet from them, so I would have waited too and been killed, I agree that the guy must've had NVGs.
Hopefully one of these times a few of us can link up on TS and be that group of people with a better chance in a dangerous location like that.
Anyhow you had a good run, hope your next life is good.

I will keep an eye out for out for you Monkey, i really want to check out the NE part of the map. If i spot you i will give you a nudge in game, just dont shoot me when you see i am in bandit mode. Flatspin i am running average gear, gtx460se (just upgraded to gt560ti today) i5 @ 3.33 and 4 gb ram on win7 32.Runs flawlessly. Hoping my next run lasts a bit longer Kludger, i intend to start a new guy on Sunday night in serious mode. US with some SimHQ guys would be awesome. The kids and i ran around for an hour or so today and i let them experience the whole Dayz thing. My two girls, 9 and 13..man you should have heard the shrieks lol, full panic when they got chased, my 9 year old ran for about two k's and refused to turn around, she ended up stuck on a fence ...hilarity ensued

I installed the beta patch for ArmA2 CO and version 1.7 for DayZ yesterday. It spawned me near Elektro on the coast. I found my first automatic rifle, an AKS-74 while looting on the outskirts and traded my Enfield for it. I heard a couple Russian guys on direct chat (it appears to work with the beta patch) so I knew they were nearby. I went prone in some heavy grass near a wall until their conversation faded away, and then made my way up into the hills to "park" my character for the night. I want to check out Berezino, so I think I'll head in that direction.

Hi folks, I finally bit the bullet and installed this a couple of dayz ago and after a lot of trouble getting on a 1.7 server I finally managed a few hours this morning.Got quite lucky and have got loads of goodies ,an ak kobra, binocs, compass, knife, axe and loads more.I think I am roughly in the NE of the map and all seems well, the only thing that's starting to creep in is that after wandering about and such what is the real aim?I mean I can already feel the boredom coming over me slowly and maybe I'm missing something. All thing's said it does seem like a good game just maybe not for me. Cheers, Mick.

I think the real aim to the DayZ mod is personal survival. You collect loot to perpetuate your existence and increase your chances regardless if you play as a Bandit or Survivor. If you want more action, head into the cities and larger towns. Have you tried playing at night in-game? That gives you a different perspective. Just beware, there are human players (Bandits) that you will come across that will shoot you on sight for your loot. They shoot first and they don't ask questions later, it's what they do. I can understand why some find the mod boring after a bit of play time. It's a sandbox game and there are no set objectives. You are free to explore and do what you want to. I'm interested in getting together with a team here at SimHQ and playing for a few hours. There is safety in numbers and you can accomplish so much more working with a team that you can trust. I saw my first operational aircraft in the game yesterday. It was a military cargo plane. The pilot was merrily chatting with players on the ground as he flew by popping flares. That is no big thing in most games, but in DayZ it is. That plane had to be repaired before it was operational. Parts would need to be collected from all over the map.
The developer calls the mod more of a social experiment than a game. It's kind of interesting to see how people behave when the structure of society and the the rule of law break down. You get to sample what that might be like. These situations (Genocide, Pandemic, War, etc.) tend to degrade morality and create some real monsters. There is a power struggle with the larger, organized groups. Some human players are good and willing to help other players. Some are not and will kill without remorse. They could care less that you walked 200 miles in-game collecting the good loot and it took you a week to do it.
