The problem with Lock-on/FC is that Ubi own the rights to the original lock-on aircraft themselves iirc. The SU-25T is the only one that Ubi have no rights to hence ED/TFC can do whatever they want with it, such as give it away as a free module/demonstrator with DCS:World.

GENERAL

Q: What are the system requirements?
A: System requirements are yet to be finalized as the product is still being developed. However, preliminary requirements are as follows:

Minimum system requirements:
Windows XP, Vista, or 7, Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz or equivalent, 3GB RAM, 7GB free hard drive space, 512MB DirectX9-compatible graphics card, DirectX9.0c-compatible sound, requires internet activation.

Recommended system requirements:
64-bit Windows Vista or 7, Core 2 Duo E8400, AMD Phenom X3 8750 or better, 4GB RAM, 7GB free hard drive space, 896MB Geforce GTX260 or better supporting DirectX 9.0c and Shader 3.0, DirectX9.0c-compatible sound, requires internet activation.

Q: Will DCS: P-51D Mustang be online-compatible with other DCS products?
A: Yes, owners of the Mustang will be able to fly online alongside owners of DCS Black Shark and DCS A-10C Warthog, assuming the mission selected for the server is made to accommodate this.

Q: What about future DCS jets?
A: We will continue to develop modern aircraft as well.

Q: When will the P-51 be released?
A: During 2012. However, if you pre-order through digitalcombatsimulator.com you can play the open beta today.

Q: Will a world war 2 era map be included?
A: No, DCS is an open simulation environment, it is not a simulation of a specific time period.

Q: Will units from the world war 2 era exist, like ME-109's and Ju-87's?
A: That has yet to be determined. While we understand the desire for WW2 counterpart aircraft, DCS is not intended to be a full WW2 era simulation.

Q: What about feature X?
A: A more detailed feature list will be made available later, as the product gets closer to release.

Q: Are there any screenshots released?
A: Yes, you can find some screenshots in the announcement, here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?...81&postcount=1

Q: Why was the P-51 selected?
A: The P-51 began as a side project by some of the staff and showed good progress. Rather than put that effort to waste, we decided to flesh it out and release as a new aircraft for DCS.

Q: How is the P-51 supposed to fit into DCS? This makes no sense to me.
A: DCS is an open simulation environment, not confined to any one era, level of fidelity, or 1st party development. In the future ED and 3rd parties may add all sorts of different units ranging from gliders to X-51s.

Q: How is a P-51 supposed to fight in a modern Georgian war against modern aircraft and air defense systems?
A: It simply does not need to. It is up to the mission designer to put what units he or she wishes into the mission.

Q: How much will it cost?
A: The pre-order that gives access to the open beta costs $39.99

Q: Does DCS: P-51D Mustang use copy protection?
A: Yes, it uses the new user-friendly ProActive AAA Technology.
You will no longer have a fixed number of activations, but in an effort to prevent piracy the system does limit the number of activations per month. Your DCS P-51D Mustang serial number is initially set to 8 activations and when they all are spent, 1 activation is added automatically once, after 31 days.
ProActive AAA Technology does not install any drivers on your PC. It works as an integrated part of the DCS files but has no special privileges in your system.
For more information, please refer to this forum thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=59002

Q: Where are my missions, tracks, options settings, and screen shots saved?
A: For Windows 7 users, look in your /Users/(name)/Saved Games/DCS folder. If you wish to do a complete re-installation, you may with to remove this folder.

TECHNICAL

Q: Will DCS: P-51D Mustang use all cores on my CPU?
A: Not fully. It does include the new sound engine which operates in a separate thread.

Q: Will there be a 64-bit version?
A: Yes. We highly recommend using 64-bit operating systems with this product.

Q: I have a 32-bit OS and I am having problems running the game. What should I do?
A: If you use Win 7 \ Vista 32-bit, please read this: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?...20&postcount=8
A: If you use XP 32-bit OS, please use the /3GB Switch. Direction are here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?...9&postcount=38

Q: I am having game crashes and stability problems. What should I do?
A: Please make sure you have the latest DirectX (June 2010). http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/e...1-50ceb6d8fa8d
A: If that does not help, make sure you have the latest Microsoft Visual C++. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?...67&postcount=8
A: Make sure you are using the latest drivers for your graphics card.

GAMEPLAY

Q: Is the K-14A gunsight modeled?
A: Yes.

Q: Will there be missions and a campaign included?
A: There will be training missions, an undetermined number of single missions, and a Challenge Campaign with tasks of ever increasing difficulty.

Q: What weapons will be available for the P-51?
A: The DCS P-51D will be armed with 6 .50 cal. machine guns, 5 in. HVAR unguided rockets, and 500 lbs general purpose bombs. The guns will fire armor-piercing (AP) and armor-piercing incendiary tracer (APIT) rounds. In addition, two 75 gal. drop tanks will be available.

Q: Will we be able to adjust gun settings, such as ammo and convergence range?
A: The DCS P-51D guns are boresighted by default according to standard USAAF guidelines for the Mustang, but adjustment will be possible through a combination of the payload editor and the LUA configuration files.

Q: Does the DCS P-51D include any modern avionics?
A: The only modernized element of the DCS P-51D will be the pilot 3D model, which is based on a contemporary pilot's flight suit and head gear.

Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

Hullo

First time poster I guess - been playing P-51 today and wondered if you guys could help me with some advice?

I'm kinda stuck on the cross-wind take off. Admittedly I switched to realism mode, and removed the assists(?) on the special tab on the controls for rudder.

I can *mostly* take off normally without denting the props, but the cross-wind take off in the campaign has me pumping the rudder pedals and overcompensating one way or the other. Must have tried it 20+ times now and no matter how gentle I am it all swiftly goes out of control.

I reckon loads of you have succeeded in this mission by now so any advice for a newb would be greatly appreciated :-)

Keep your rudder trim at neutral for a crosswind take-off and see if that helps.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it a go but surely that would just cause engine torque I've balanced for to add to the problem faster than cross winds? Curious to hear your reasoning behind that.

I have to admit now, I can't try advice as I'm sat away from the gaming PC, so apologies for lack of any proper feedback.

I saw a picture of a 190 flying side by side with a Mustang, is that an upcoming mod or what?

And Scribble. Really slow throttle input on takeoff. Never just shove it forward. And lock the tailwheel. (Can the tailwheel on the DCS Mustang be locked?)

Roy, can you give a link to that screenshot, I'd love to see it.

That picture is indeed from DCS P-51D, an internal version, with a 3rd Party Fw-190. I believe (but do not know for sure, so don't complain too loudly if I got this wrong) this aircraft is intended to be released as a free mod by it's author.

Well Im hoping you are right then smile I know this probably has been asked before but, would it be possible to get the A2A planes into this SIM? If they can get a team who is already working on high fidelity modelling of these aircraft it would make it easier for the guys at ED, that is if it can actually be ported in some way or at leas partially.Forgive me it this is non sense, Im just hoping something similar can be done.

I also made a post earlier last month about an interest in AI planes, Primarily a friendly bomber AI and adversary AI. I think by adding a friendly B17 AI and FW190 adversary AI, the mission developers like myself would be open to hundreds of possible scenarios to play with while maintaining full focus and depth on the P51 Simulation

Only time will tell I guess. :P

Would the author be able to post another `Sneak Peak` picture of the AI aircraft if any exist?

As the hydraulics pressure is unloaded, fairing doors begin to open due to gravity. When they are not fully opened landing gear control lever was turned and the main legs were released from up-locks. See what happens as they overtake the fairing doors.
Rocking the plane gently has no effect on down-locks but the second attempt was successful.
To faster regain hydraulic pressure prop was set to max rpm.
The second attempt shows what happens if the plane flies unloaded (g-load was 0.2-0.3)
