...and it's mine. biggrin Got this one this week. It's a 1943-dated M44. In 1943, the Russians built 50,000 of these for combat evaluation. The results were positive, so it was officially adopted in 1944 as the M44. So, in essence this is a prototype M44 and one of the first M44s made. smile

Wow Luke, another fine addition to your collection. Looks like the first three digits of the date are double struck, & it looks like all but the first letter in the serial number are struck by hand...it doesn't line up and at least two of the characters are askew.

What he said. Wow.

It even has orange numbers. Isn't that important in the world of Moisin collecting?

Me, I'm holding out for a mint Indian-made Lee-Enfield, one of the 1960s 7.62mm rifles. I'll know it when I see it.

Orange letters / numbers aren't a big thing with collecting Mosins. They aren't exactly common, but they aren't rare either.

vault_dweller: double-struck dates are seen every now and then. Probably was a case of the first stamping not being deep enough, so the person doing the stamping put the stamp close to where it should be and stamped it again. smile

biggrin I love my M39. It's a 1941 Sako. Very nice, accurate shooter.

Go by eneat1119. wink

That's a 1941 VKT and she's in excellent shape. Have two M91/30s to go with her along with a 1950 Russian SKS. Love them Russian ladies. biggrin

Ah yes, the Russian stuff is very cool. I'd definitely like to pick up a Russian SKS some day. I sold my Yugo SKS a while back, because I just wasn't doing much with it.
