Smacked into the edge of the skirting board and heard the loud 'crack', even my son did in the other room. Left it a few hours in case it's badly bruised but think it's definitely broken, hurts like mad with any pressure on it. Only thing that heals it though is time and putting as little pressure on it as possible!

Fun isn't it had the little toe on my right foot crushed by a lame horse, it staggered and landed it's iron shod hoof right on my little toe it even managed to miss my steel toe cap on my boots. I was 14 at the time, my little toe is twisted 90 degrees so the nail is on the outside I do feel for you, I can still remember it and it was more than 40 years ago.

My middle brother had the same happening some years ago... Take care of yourself and don´t indulge in painkillers.
It is NOT like in videogames.

Dude, why not go in A&E and have it checked out or X-rayed? Once pulled the door over my foot, snagged my fourth toe, hurt like hell but I knew it wasn't broken so that was good. If you suspect you've broken your toe, do have it x-rayed, or even just to confirm it is alright.
That's the great thing here in the UK, things like these are "free" (or free-at-point-of-use) so why not?

I thought there was nothing to be done by medical staff so didn't want to waste their time I'll see what it's like in the morning but it only hurts if I move it, sat down it doesn't hurt.

Where's the picture? Yeah like Komemiute said, don't go all Max Payne on us, listening to the rattle tattle of a pain killer bottle going end up down the ol' gullet, listening to your own internal, noir naration and diologue. You'd find that Lady Luck was really a hooker, and you were fresh out of cash. He was trying to buy more sand for his hour glass. I wasn't selling any.

I broke my pinky toe last year, hurt for weeks but yeah, really, there isn't too much they can do for you.
Doc said the procedure is the same for the little toe (whether it's a bad sprain or an actual fracture/brake), which is to 'buddy tape' the little toe to the next one, which helped a bit, keeps it from moving around as much I suppose.
That, and you can get a 'soft shoe' (sandal type thing), so when you're walking your toes don't bend as much as they would with sneakers/dress shoes.
Good luck, hope it heals up fast - I was amazed at how much that one little toe could hurt!

Ouch. I did that when I was in a rush packing up in the hotel room in Jeddah, leaving to get home. I wasn't watching where my feet where and smacked one hard against the chair that was in the way, it felt bad so I looked down and saw that my little toe was sticking out at a 45° angle. Stuff like that freaks me out but I had to do something so I pushed it back into place, put my loosest boots on (RM Williams for the Aussies) and finished packing. Got a company ride to the airport then hobbled to the office, gave the fellow in the office some money to get me two ice-creams. Ate one and pulled the boot off, then used the ice-cream stick to splint my toe, with some sticky-tape. Popped my sandles onto my feet as they kept all that clear then spent another 20 hours flying home. Went to see the doctor ASAP he confirmed I had broken it.
So yeah, I know they are a bit of a pain.

Yeah, they buddy-splinted mine to the next toe. Weird. That's like an easy-and-accessible splint. I wonder if they put pins if it's on a really bad shape, but with the size of the bone....

Yep. Did the same thing when I was windsurfing once. I was standing in knee deep water getting ready to launch and I brought my right foot up rapidly to place it on the board and my pinky toe just caught the bottom of the rail of the board. Snap. It went numb for a few seconds. I put my foot back in the water and the waves were sloshing around and I could feel my toe just flapping around down there. Ugh. Limped back to the beach, derigged, taped my toe to the other toe and drove 4 hours back to Charlotte (stick shift unfortunately). Since I fly for a hospital I went to the ER, they x-rayed it and said - yeah..sure is broken. Tape it to the other one and carry on. LOL.. Waste of a co-payment.
I've broken a lot of bones (wrist, arm, lower leg, eye socket)..but the toe was the most painful. For a couple weeks after it was very painful when walking. I was really hobbling around. It has healed up just fine though and gives me no problems.
Good luck!

yup, what Beach said it hurts and they can't do much for it, cotton between and tape it to the one next to it, apply good alcohol internally and keep it elevated.

Ouch.. Not done that, but I did kick my bed frame and lost most of my big-toenail. Took ages to heal and was agony to walk on.
This heat wave caught me out, had a level 3+ bilateral pitting oedema over the weekend... booked a doctor's appointment and the swelling vanished 'just in time' to not be obvious at the surgery. Under orders to watch for it, and to book blood & urine tests if it recurs.

Why are the silliest accidents the most painful? I've stubbed the little toe a few times - usually at night going to the bathroom like almost everyone else has.

Cracked ribs from a hard tap into the wall when karting was a different story though, cheesus they hurt. Also got my sternum smashed a year ago in a racing accident, that also was pretty painful when sitting down/standing up, etc. I made the mistake of accidentally sneezing about a week or two after it happened ...... brought tears to my eyes.

Yeah.. I've broken ribs twice now while windsurfing. I'd say that the ribs were most painful at night (trying to lay on my side was a no go..and coughing..or laughing..yeah..) and the toe was the most painful during the day when just trying to get around.

I've also either cracked a rib or more likely just torn an intercostal muscle on my right side last weekend. Um ..... I'd best now mention how, a gentleman never tells!
