The first and last shot of the R.E.8 are brilliant, and good angles!
But of course the Albatros D.V or D.Va is even more fascinating for
me - Lady Albatros makes my heart jump!
Interesting combination: late war crosses, but green-mauve camouflage
instead of Lozenge. The serial number is quite a late one - I think
it should have had Lozenge. But then they may have built and painted
it after a photograph.

Damn, you're right - the last craft has no gunner. Different serial no.
Were there types without rear defense?

Didn't notice that...check the first pic of the FE 2B, see gloves? see helmet? see anything else?

I interprete that "Fee" picture differently.
The gunner is the forward guy, and he operates a forward gun.
For rear defense, he would operate the other.
The gloves are just hung to the reaward MG.
The "helmet" is actually the pilot (either wearing a woolen face mask or is hard to recognise in the photo)
No one missing.

I don't think that's a glove, but the bag to catch the ejected brass casings.

The RE-8 directly above your post shows only a pilot. But the last one in the second batch appears to have a gunner in the front seat. Are these the same plane? I can't tell.
These are all great pics. It's a good feeling to see so many WWI replicas flying these days. Now, if a decent percentage of them could gravitate to working in film, we could break the stranglehold of the much-modified Tiger Moth!

Hauksbee,

The plane you are on about is actually a BE2 series aircraft, but I know what you are one about as I had to double check and it was only the position of the observer/gunner that gave it away.

Wodin,

If you have any more pictures of the SE5a's I would love to see them.

They've a spare SE5. When my lottery numbers come up, I'm having one of those... just see if I don't.

For example at "The Vintage Aviator" or their airshows at Wanaka, New Zealand.
