I have a vary embryo concept........it may go nowhere.

But gauging interest in a total conversion mod of APOS to a historical Vietnam mod. Would be VARY heavy on m113 ACAV. This is a HUGE undertaking and would require a deticated team of people. Not to mention a massive investment of time over the long haul. There are many pieces missing in the editing department............no way to make maps........ Lack of sample/source models etc. etc.. But any idea worth persuing starts with baby steps..... But this is just feeling things out.

Would be fun to have ARN forces.
Would be fun to have 11th cav
Would be fun to let the Aussies in with their m113 with saladin turret
Would be fun to have the viet cong
Would be fun to have NVA

Comments? Interest?


Little blurb about me. 19D Iraq vet. My mother served in Vietnam as a Nurse in the Navy. (Those 2 things influence interst in this concept for me). Had my schooling for modeling/animation interupted by my service in Iraq. Got a stupid injury (getting OLD :D).............the US Veterans Adminitration is Satan incarnate. They get their jollies by screwing over guys that have allready been thru enough.

Saying nothing = no interst. Saying FB......your a crazy bitter broken guy is prefered to passive nothingness.

I don't know how many modders there are for APOS. I personally only use SABOW, and from what I understand, there is more modders for SABOW than APOS for some reason. If you can find a crew of people who have atleast basic modding experience for APOS, then I'd say do it.

Personally, I'm going to stick with SABOW for now. Maybe after IDF 2.0 I'll begin to look into buying APOS.

Well it is the same game engine biggrin. APOS really has less to mod (as far as ww2 eastern front) is concerned. When I think about doing anything for APOS all I can muster up enough interest in myself is North Africa ww2 and this idea. Both, alas have been butchered by major game studios. But noone that I know of has really done historical stuff for vietnam. Usually an FPS hack job. I could tell you about my personal experiences with gamers on "how realistic" BF or COD are. I have had freaken kids trying to tell how realistic that crap is. Last time I checked I did do that crap for real. I look at their characters and go UCMJ violation!

#1 reason to go with apos over sabow on something like this is APOS will get multiplayer first. 2# Apos seems more popular and will for sure have Graviteam support for a long while. #3 SABOW rights are not owned by Graviteam which in 6 to 9 months time when something like this would be ready (or longer I am being optimistic)will still be supported.

But if move ahead on something like this there has to be interest from community. Both player and mod people. Also need some way to make maps.....largest challange. rofl


Oh my..........When did Iron Front get released? Lol, to busy making stuff to notice such things.

I am dropping the APOS concept and thinking SABOW is better suited. Heres why......the missions and mini mod I have been working on are making me a vary happy camper. These are really starting to gel with what works and what does not work. The newest mission I have been working on made my jaw drop and simply stopped playing and watched. Conclusion is simply that an open topped apc type vehicle with a good command control interface to tell your guys what to do while in the middle of it is pretty darn good. The tanks of sabow are great but you miss alot of the action while buttoned up. If only I could make maps....... But I am going to start moving in that direction as soon as everything is cleared from my current projects. Alot of what needs to get done is duel purpose. IE. finishing my playable m113 and then ACAV it out. Many weapons are suprise suprise used by other factions in sabow. M79, sks, m40, b10, b11, m60mg, m2hb, diska, etc etc. Some are in game now, others are in my pipeline, yet others are things I would like to do.. m79 used by iran (did you know that?), m29 mortar, freaken jeep (was thinking m151 mutt) but hmmm maybe not. Well you get the idea.

The one snag to all this is the ability to make maps......

Would love to have alot of the focus on ARVN and Aussie forces.. No one has done that. Later years of the war when US was pretty much out had a bit of tank on tank fighting as well pt76, t34 85, t54/55, btr 152 VS M41 walker bulldog (one of my fav tanks), M48, m113 of all kinds etc.


At anyrate.....I really do hope folks enjoy this next release of mine......true labor of love.

More of less. Not quite figured out how animated stuff like gauages are set up. I know it uses a dummy to connect but the cfg files behind them look like giberish. I do have a pretty good warm and fuzzy on model parent childern relationships. Finially figured out cfg stuff...more or less for making it playable. Getting textures to show on larger complex models is big fat question mark for me.

So the plan to figure all is out will be a playable m2hb. May not release it, put its simple enough model with minimum parts. Will attempt to have scalable rear sight which has a 500 to 2000 yard settings for sights. Already modeled in the model, just needs the dummy connecting bit and cfg files. Of course that is what will sit atop m113 so it is a logical step in the right direction. I also made a simple T & E for the thing but dropped it out of model. Unless a soldier is really well trained and disciplined, then this wonderful piece of kit will get dumped. You never see 3rd world soldiers using these in action........well i have not.
