WTH? Why are the majority of the multiplayer servers locked? I visited most of the websites of the locked servers thinking the passwords would be readily available but I did not find one password.

The server I did connect with (I think it was AEF 161 Sqn) last night was awesome! They had radio transmissions that simulated the types of missions that are being flown in Afghanistan. All targets were being called out by a controller based upon situation (ie crashed helo...) Great job by the mission builders!

Locked servers are obviously meant to be "private" servers only for the squadrons operating them. Whether a server is private or public depends on the person setting it up, and since some people either "rent" a server or have a spare PC run a dedicated 24/7 server, not all are willing to provide access to the general public for free.

A few servers require you sign up to their forums to get the password, or to get to their teamspeak channel where the password is part of the "welcome message."

Then you're limited to what is free or open servers. Or just find a couple of guys you want to fly with, and make your own private server for when you fly.

Or go to Eno's server!

Yes... Eno's Firehouse is up **MOST** of the time but will sometimes drop off at night.

Wrecking Crew works pretty hard most of the time to keep things rolling in my absence... and I step in when I can (I work in a different province from where the comp is so we both have to control it through team viewer). WC really does most of the work- building missions and getting things moving... but in order to make it worth the effort we need guys like you to go on in and enjoy it.

The machine running the server is a heavyweight and has all the 3D turned off so it has nothing to worry about except keeping things running smooth. To be honest, I don't think I've ever heard a complaint about lag or jitters- so I know that things are smooooooooth.

Anyway- go on in and check it out. The missions are finely polished and definitely worth it.

And go over to the thread and say hello... there's a decent core group of guys in there flying and once you get to know them it makes the experience much more enjoyable.

Hi Lucky,

Yes, Eno is running a great machine that I have access to, for mission control. There is a mission up now that has been running for 24+ hours at this point.

It's been kind of quiet lately, IMO folks are waiting for a new announced version release, plus the start of summer in the US with our Memorial Holiday. I've been sidetracked myself, herding kids around my new deck with buckets of stain and brushes...

If you cannot see Eno's Firehouse in the DCS Multiplayer Lobby, then try to find it by entering the IP address:
70.79.187.158:10308

This is an issue - server not showing up - with the current v1.1.1.1 - that we hope to see fixed in the next release. Once you make a connection through the IP address, then you will be able to find the server under the History tab in the DCS Multiplayer Lobby.

We typically do not run a password on that server. We will often join up in the SimHQ Teamspeak server for voice comms; if you see a locked server that references the SimHQ TS server in the name then jump into the TS server and ask for the password in there. There are others who will put up a locked server with SimHQ in the name.

I need to reset the server here in a few minutes and do some file maintenance for 20 minutes or so. But it should be running for the rest of the day.

Thanks guys. I did not see Eno's on my list but I will try and join by IP. I play BF3 almost everyday with my clan OFAW and used to be in an active IL-2 squad for several years. I would love to find a good squadron that does not take itself too seriously and like to have a good time flying with each other.

Good luck with that squadron search. With you being in the USA, there are a good few. Take a look at the WarHawks, a fun bunch to fly with and knowledgeable folks too.

As far as Eno's server, there is no commitment, just show up and fly and enjoy!

I run an open MP server every now and then. But that's only occasionally and here's why:

1) I repeatedly have to shut the bugger down at the most unconvenient moment because of RL intrusions - much easier to do if you only fly with your squadmates on a locked server

2) I've seen too many clowns interested in everything but the mission itself, including shooting each other down - and this is a humans-vs-AI coop server fer Bobssakes

That said I still warmly welcome everyone whenever I'm hosting an open game smile

When I host it will just be under SimHQ. The password is the same as the one we use for ArmA2: positiveg. The only reason I use a password is I usually only host smaller missions of 8-10 slots and most of those are spoken for by folks on team speak already. Join in if you ever see us playing.

Here's why I lock my server when it's up.

Idiots like to takeoff and strafe the friendlies who are still starting up. And I usually find that same behavior in an open server, so I stay away from open ones. Hopefully some day we will have dedi support...

Eh guys...

We talked a lot about the whole password / vs open and the general concensus was originally to leave it open to allow for more participation. I had been pw protecting the server with a password I put up in the thread at the time and it was gradually just vetoed.

However lately I've been finding occasions where some knob will go in and do exactly what you're talking about and strafe people on the ground or shoot them down with the 'winders. Admittedly I've only seen a couple such occasions but when it can take you over 10 minutes to get off the ground- nevermind to get to your work area... that is simply unacceptable.

I'll continue to post details of the server in the first page of the eno's firehouse thread... so to those of you looking to join and finding it locked up just double check there. Typically the password is just 'go'

I've looked into servman but I'm not sure how it works with A-10.

If anyone sees a team killer on Eno's Firehouse, PLEASE post their handle in here. If it happens again maybe there will be a Known Team Killer thread... ??

I've seen it happen a few times, but not in the last 3-4 months. If I know a pilot's name I'll post it.

Let's see, Eno, did you say a pilot named Peter did some team killing recently? That was after I saw the guy in The Highway doing an excellent job of making it to the coast.

My limited understanding of serveman (sp?) is that it keeps track of pilot's IP address so it knows when some jerk changes their handle.

Team killing is not tolerated in my little world.

Can I shoot him down instead?

It keeps track of his unique ID which is bound to his license key, and it is more reliable than an IP. You can hand this ID out to other server owners as well. He can come back in ... if he buys himself a new copy.

The Dedicated AEF 161 SQN Server is open 24HR/7 Days a week, and is rarely locked as we try and encourage the DCS public to enjoy multiplayer with us.

We use the DCS Community Teamspeak Server (ID: 202.62.137.195:9990) which is open to the public to communicate while using our server, and also supporting some other sim titles (iRacing, BMS, etc). We are glad you had a great time with the hosted missions, and we encourage everyone to check it out.

The AEF 161 Squadron is a DCS group based in Australia but is open to players from around the globe. We are not an exclusive club and have members who are also members of other teams, but we ask that you get ‘permission’ to join us if that’s an issue with your parent vSquadron. The AEF also supports RoF, BMS, iRacing, IL2, ArmA & BF3 and have forums for our members and visitors to discuss these titles.

The 161 Squadron has been active for over 4+ years, and have events ranging from beginner evenings to advanced tactical nights.

If you want to know more, then our website is based HERE, and our team DCS forums are based HERE.

Check us out.
