1. It's great. Charging through the rain in a line of T-34-85's is awesome!

2. Several display lock-ups. Won't reset like I get in Call of Duty. The game basically stops and you have to exit to desktop and restart. Maybe my machine, maybe not. (EDIT: Gone when I play without AA)

3. In 1.61 (base + patch) I only get 3 SP missions. Only 1 is a "real" mission. And Armoury and another option (forgotten) are greyed out.

4. The editor is great as always and where I'm playing the most to get some tank time. But no group command mode as seen in ARMA2 OA where you can command units outside your own section. Great pity. (EDIT: Yes there is, I'm stupid)

5. First BAD point - when you're gunning in a tank and can't see much, not a big help for the AI to get left, right, in front and behind mixed up. Where is that enemy tank?

6. Second BAD point - King Tigers will focus on shooting down a circling enemy fighter with their big gun. Crazy.

7. Oh yeah, it's still good and so atmospheric. Potential classic in time.

When it crashes in the first 10 secs of a mission, not so good.

Made it past the first two crashes and the training so far.

Not bad, played WWII Online for 10 years and wish it looked like this.

I can't get past the 2nd mission in the German campaign.

Click to reveal..
I unload the PaK gun and then just stand around while some T-34s show up. The animation on the tanks is really jittery. After the friendly AI blows up the tanks, Me and two AI guys are supposed to get in a Kubelwagon (me as a passenger) to go investigate what happened to our spotter. I think one of the AI guys keeps getting killed because only me and the driver get into the Kubelwagon and then the driver won't drive. We just sit there until we blow up for some reason.

I restarted 3 times and it's the same every time. On the 2nd time, I left the Kubelwagon and went on foot. I found the spotter and that gave me the next set of orders, but the previous ones about getting in the Kubelwagon were still showing and the game didn't know what to do. The Soviets launched their next attack, but the Germans were still stuck on the "get in the car" script and stood around and got killed.

I'll install the patch and see if that fixes things.

To get it to move on I had to drive the Kubelwagon right up to the officer and he leaned in and the mission completed.

I switched to English version of Motherland campaign and restarted, no crashes after patch.

Does seem a bit picking on locations to start the changes or voiceovers

My armory and basic training options will not work or highlight. Anyone else have this issue? It is version 1.60 from gamersgate.

Same here. I patched up to 1.61 but the 2nd German campaign mission is still not working right. T-34s in the 2nd attack just drove right through our positions, parked and then everyone sat around and had tea.

my biggest concern... in that beta I previewed was getting tons of crashes... those test missions I did today were error free... work tonight, testing/playing tomorrow.

Just playing on the SimHQ server - love the heavy sniper kit already, although I've got to stop standing in the middle of corn-fields doing a scarecrow impression, as my head tends to attract the bullets..

How do you move the anti-tank gun into position in the 2nd German campaign mission? All I can do is change the gun from combat to mobile position, but I'm unable to move it by hand or hitch it to a vehicle???

What are you guys doing for graphic settings? My whole screen looks blurred out and fuzzy, like I need glasses.

Running a i7 920 @4.0 Ghz
Gtx 560 Ti w/ 2 GB @ 1680 x 1050

graphics aren't impressing me, and haven't really explored the combat yet

The ARMA 2 engine has this odd thing where you get to set two resolutions - I think it looks best if you do the following:

- Interface res: 1680x1050 (i.e. native)
- 3D res: same as above (not the default it sets tho)
- Post process: off

Also, check the 'Advance' button to see all of these options.

Otherwise there's too much blur/stuff for my taste.

Wow you should be getting better gfx than that, I have a 560Ti/448 and it is running great for me 60-75fps.

I'm on the latest NV drivers, also you might want to make sure you are not forcing AA/AF outside of the game, and maybe disable postprocessing ingame?

My laptop seems not to like it much. Gives me graphical anomalies (probably has something to do with nearly non-existent drivers for the GPU). Though from what I have played of it it is entertaining, though with a few bugs. The various damage states on the tanks are entertaining, and I like the shell effects too.

For the guys who have shot at tanks, what are your thoughts about the armor model in the game?

Adlabs and I were getting some odd texture tearing - while trying to blow something up via backpack-wire-detonator. I thought my GPU was overheating or something, but it just looks like a bug as otherwise we wouldn't both be getting it in exactly the same place. So if you see it, don't worry smile

Yes, FF and I saw that graphic tearing. On my screen it happened when near a satchel charge. The wire and detonator were OK, it seemed, for me.

I was VERY impressed with my graphics performance in tonight's brief run. Settings higher than Arma2, thus a good deal better looking, all while fast and smooth. Looking forward to some more play.

EDIT: FYI, I have a low spec PC and run Arma2 on pretty low settings.

We have a winner. One more question to go!

First correct answer emailed to me -- not PM'ed -- wins a Steam Iron Front auth code.

Why does the SimHQ Land & Armor Combat Editor love this screenshot?

You will be pleased to know that you are incorrect. It works identically to the High Command module found in ArmA2/Operation Arrowhead. The instructions to set it up are absolutely identical.

I don't mind paying for games before they're ready for release as long as I'm told so, as I was with DCS A-10C beta and Carrier command. But this release was neither ready for release nor marketed as such so I am hugely disappointed. Especially since I don't have any performance issues with Arma II CO. Amd the SP triggers are so buggy it feels it hasn't been tested at all. Or if it was tested the reported bugs were ignored.

Hoping the performance issues and SP triggers will be fixed with coming patches. But if this is considered release worthy I for one is of a completely different opinion.

I'm having good fun with the campaign so far. I stumble over some bugs here and there and the controls drives me crazy sometimes but overall it's pretty cool. A lot like a hollywood war movie I think. The german voice acting is pretty good too, I'm just waiting for someone yelling "STEINER, STEEEIIIINNER!".

I would much prefer if the missions were more open and realistic. There are too many instances where I just end up trying to beat the game. Some of the go-there-quickly adds excitement to the game but just running from one waypoint to the other waiting to trigger something is not my cup of tea. If it was, I would be playing call of duty. The step by step instructions for each feature are very good and I hope to see some more on mines and stuff later in the campaign. Right now I'm trying to survive escorting Herr Wolf who apparently believes tactical movement is best done by sprinting everywhere. I die a lot.

I've spent some time in the editor and always end up creating something which I would call a moving diorama. Just a big battle and then drop myself somewhere to watch the action.

The tanks are a lot better than in vanilla arma I think. I had a great duel with a T34 in my Stug yesterday. He nailed me with a loud CLANG and I think I lost my track after that. My crew and I got out ok and then made a rush for our own lines. We made it and I got a panzerfaust from a dead and managed to get a kill. Exciting stuff.

I would love to have a stug/tank campaign. Just moving with the front line re-enforcing the infantry line here and there. It would be great if you had to do some refuelling/rearming and setup night camp. Not just action commanding but actually running the unit.

Overall I think it's a must buy for anyone who has some interest in WWII and the eastern front.
