Sure would be nice to get a new Blade Runner game to go with this like the old Westwood game. I've still got that here somewhere, spanning 3 cd's IIRC. LOL

I want Peter Dinklage to play the Blade Runner and have him b1tchslap the Replicants to submission.

This is the Laphroaig talking and in no way I'm responsible for that comment....

Other "great" sequel material:

- Revenge of the Seven Samurai
- The Downfall 2: Voyage to Argentina
- Apollo 14
- Highlander 2....oh, wait!

Sheer genius. Or how 'bout

The Graduate II: Postdoc Blues
After High Noon, the 3:10 from Yuma
From Here to Eternity, and Even Further
Long Gone with the Wind: a Carpetbagger's Odyssey
Son of Spartacus meets Ben Hur
Citizen Kane, Jr.
To Kill a Mockingbird II: Scout Finch, Freedom Rider

there's a book in this, I think...

Looks like I might be running out of time to see the first one before a sequel is released.

Do you have Netflix? If you do, add Blade Runner to your queue! You won't regret it.

Naw no Netflix and no video stores around anymore either since Blockbuster closed its store two or three years ago.

I agree with Flying Monkey, Blade Runner was perfectly self-contained.

What surprised me in watching the "making of" movies on the Director's cut DVD (iirc) was how much the movie evolved as it was being made, and how much input the actors had in creating their characters... Many aspects of the movie that I find are particularly memorable were either improvised by the actors or the result of last-minute changes. No matter how much I like the sci-fi film noir world of BR, I doubt they could recreate the "magic sauce" simply because it appears to have been the result of an organic creative process rather than the implementation of a set plan and vision.

I completely agree. Many films and tv shows that are considered great were the product of their time and circumstance. To try and recreate the proverbial "lightning in a bottle" would most likely fail. Sometimes a group of actors can work brilliantly and gel perfectly together but then you take that same cast several years later it usually won't be the same. Those actors have over the years acquired new experiences and new perspectives and hence aren't exactly the same as they were before.

I welcome it, I want more of that future universe.
However, I don't want it to be about retiring replicants again. IMO they need to follow up on the human template angle like Tyrell's niece was for Rachel, like the 2nd book did. Not a great book, but not bad and it wasn't just a repeat of the same formula. Some other guy wrote it of course, as would be the case here.
I'd rather they took on a new character though.

Or, it could be a prequel going into why Deckard quit. Although he said no human had accidentally been retired, I got the impression that was what happened to him.

There are 2 ways to do a sequel.
You continue the story of the characters in the first installment in a similar manner. Things like the Die Hard sequels.
You either introduce new characters in the same universe (ala ST:TNG) or you take one or more characters from the first one, keep them in the same universe, but totally alter the way things go. Examples would be the Riddick sequel, or Aliens.

I think a new BR would only work the second way (or it might seem a pale attempt to copy the first) but the risk then is that audiences will reject it as too different. Riddick had that complaint, and even some fans of Alien disliked the action-orientation of Aliens.
