I was running three characters together as a team. With MechWarrior Online just around the corner, it wasn't hard to let other annoyances with Eve Online finally tip the scale to "getting out of it". Last year, Hulkageddon was something like a week and a half in duration. This year, it's up to a whole month. It's a 'sandbox', so they let people do what they will, within the constructs of the game... I understand that. You'd think people who want their PvP fix would have been happy enough with doing it in null sec / wormhole space and in low sec. (There's plenty to be had in Wormhole space) At least for now, and up until I forget the various things that annoy me about it, I'm pretty much done with participating in Eve's economy (and CCP's income stream).
For someone starting out / restarting, without an existing bunch of friends in there... Eve University is probably as good a place to start as any. If you're strictly interested in PvP, you could also look at getting in with the Red vs Blue folks, as that is what they are all about.
