This game has been annoying me for some time now. I played it two years ago on a 3-month trial subscription and it was fun when you can learn 2-3 skills over a 2-day period but then things started slowing down immensely. Plus the game is so deep and doesn't do a good job of explaining stuff so I would go do missions that I could do, wipe the floor with the rats that pop up, then next thing I know I am dead after the wave X of rats! Plus the missions got boring after a while anyway, just "go here, collect/deliver this item, watch out for the rats" sort of missions.

With the recent expansion and Steam sale, I wonder if I should give it a go again... but not without expert help this time!

Or should I just put this on my list of "games you shall never touch again, EVAR!"?? Funny how I hate subscription MMOs but I am considering EVE. Something about spaceships and lasers and missiles...

Have you tried Vendetta Online, actual twich-combat, with proper physics.

I am quite enjoying it.

Started a thread on it here: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3568108/Vendetta_Online_MMORGP_Space_S.html#Post3568108

I've gone back to it a few times and always left frustrated. I don't have the time to play it properly. I rescued too many birds and soft drink formulas. LOL
Substituted with X3: TC, not that I get too far into that either. Single player, beautiful game, cockpit mod and a cheap one time buy.

I've still yet to try Vendetta, but I plan to. Also need to go and check out Black Prophecy again to see how it's coming along. At least it's free.

IMHO, to get the most enjoyment out of Eve, you need to get into a corp with a 0.0 presence, preferable a space holding alliance.
0.0 is where the pvp fun is. I've been in most types of pvp in Eve - flying a dread in a large fleet (100's of ships per side) battle, solo pvp,
and everything in between. I prefer the smaller hit and run small ship roaming gang, but fleet battles can be fun as well. PvE is as boring as hell,
but it tends to be that way in most of the mmo's I've tried - real grind-y.

Yeah.... and if I get the Steam version I will have to start over again... I don't want each attempt to simply end in frustration, but I am also frustrated that I have not been able to play this game properly.

I don't know if there is a way to properly play Eve, Ice.

I have been playing for over 4 years now, though I did take a six month break about halfway. Right now I am just treading water I think, deciding if I want to make the move to 0,0 a Wormhole or ????.

I broke the 10 Billion isk mark awhile back and honestly I am quite poor compared to some people in the game. After playing for over 4 years I still only trust ONE guy I have met ingame.

My work schedule makes it hard for me to commit to much with other people as I am gone for a month at a time.

Part of the spiel for EVE is eventually being able to play for free by buying game time with the money you can earn in-game. I wonder how long before that can happen, if at all? I was once told that such people have two or three computers, with one running mining all day, another for crafting, and one for "actual play" use. Not the way I envision playing EVE.

Still playing almost 9 years now. Get into a corp in a good Alliance in 0.0 and the fun will begin.

I hated the outside your ship view and if they had a proper cockpit and proper combat I would still be playing now. I can't get on with the auto-combat.

I used to be a hard core player, but not any more. It is one of those games that you can do whatever you want in it. Mine, rat, go into industry, pirate or scam. If you are looking for some action you might want to try a militia corp. Militia can have some good fights. The Caldari-Gallenti war was entertaining. Minmatar-Amarr wasn't as good. Militia is a good starting place for getting your mind around the PVP aspect of it all. After that 0.0 becomes slightly less deadly. Even then, avoid expensive implants if you go there. smile Though 0.0 can be very lucrative for trade and war profiteering if you can get past the gate camps, which is a big if.
