Jones has filed a similar but much broader suit in Tallahassee against the Florida Highway Patrol.

A hearing in that case is scheduled next month.

"This stuff is fun," Jones said after Tuesday's hearing.

He did well : as he was warning of the presence of a speed control, the traffic was undoubtedly much safer as the other drivers were driving slowly, within the speed limit. less money for the state , but maybe a life was saved, who knows ?

It's not about safety, it's about revenue. Municipalities count on ticket revenue. Even more interesting than this is the intersection camera debate. Tons of towns and cities are losing money as people get wise to the locations...and the local governments are in long term contracts with the monitoring companies paying minimum monthly amounts and have no way to take them down contractually!

I am kind of mixed on this one. While they may have got the driver to slow down right at that time, the driver didn't learn a lesson from actually receiving a penalty.

I agree that part of it is about revenue. I can't deny that. Getting hit in the wallet is what will get people to slow down permanently. I can see both sides of it. I rarely speed and usually when I do, it is because I just wasn't paying attention to how fast I was going or didn't notice a speed limit sign. I have had one speeding ticket in my life and I was about 19 or 20. It was a lady cop and I wasn't angry with her at all. When she handed me the ticket, I smiled and said, "Sorry I can't say thank you" she laughed and said. "I wish more people were like you".

Sometimes it's unfair, but most of the time it isn't.

As a professional trucker, I believe most traffic laws are merely "suggestions". neaner

Not really, but...

There was an article in Car & Driver a few years ago about the village of New Rome, Ohio that sustained itself on the basis of its police force writing tickets. A website was created in protest:

http://www.newromesucks.com/main.html

Since, the the State of Ohio has unincorporated New Rome.

If the cop had parked near a school zone I bet he would have run out of tickets. Up here it seems everyone does 20-25 or faster in the 15mph school zones. I do 15 (or as close as I can due to my inaccurate speedometer) and I have people just about climbing in the back of my Jeep trying to get me to go faster. The way I see it is 1 mile per hour could make the difference between missing and hitting a kid. I don't want that on my conscience, so everyone behind me had better just settle in for a slow 15mph ride to the end of the school zone.

The parents dropping their kids off at school are the worst offenders around here.

Anyone speeding in a school zone should be made to appear in front of a judge and fined the max. Everyone knows where their school zones are.

15 MPH max in a school zone.

In neighborhoods drive under the limit.

County roads where no one is around drive the limit not (be careful).

Interstates use CB radio and the Escort Live and be safe and don't get involved in aggressive driving.

Soo many years ago driving south across the Colorado \ New Mexico border on I-25 (purple mountains majesty) there was this CB radio conversation going on where the discussion was about informed drivers vs those who are not.
