Stylization to look like the TV prop would not appear to be most efficient. But as you say, ambitious!

Yep, personally I would have gone for a giant Stay Puft Marshmallow Man circa Ghostbusters, but I guess they are going for inspiration. I wonder if they want the crew to wear those funky uniforms?

Quite daft.
Ion engines aren't anywhere near powerful enough to push hundreds of tonnes around effectively and the centrifuge would have to be stopped (can't be stopped or started mechanically, has to be a reaction engine like a rocket) or it'll create a lot of precessional forces.

Yeah, I'm guessing the folks coming up with this plan don't know a whole lot about nuclear engineering either... The LAST thing you'd ever want to do would be to jettison a reactor core into space... Google "prompt critical" to show why. Not to mention the numbers they're tossing around wouldn't work for the sizes I'm guessing at based on the images.

Not the Enterprise but building something like the Babylon 5 station would be somewhat in the realm of possibility with our current tech. At least that's my impression based on the theoretical stuff I've read!
