I love Deadliest Catch, can't stand Ice Truckers.
I guess, as much as the danger and hard work that crab fishing entails, it is the personalities and interaction that appeals to me. Sure, the show is edited, probably heavily, but in the end, these guys are not actors and what you see and hear is pretty much the real deal.
First time I watched it, I'm thinking, "Gee, that's an awful lot of money to make in such a short time, wish I could get a gig like that." Now, I am getting to be, if I not already am, an old fartbag, so no way I could do it today, but after watching the show a few times, I must admit that I don't think I could have ever hacked it. I have done some pretty hardcore, physically demanding jobs, but not on the crab fishing scale.
For whatever reason(s), I still find the show fresh, something I cannot say about American Choppers, which was a favorite of mine the first few years. When they (the Tuttles) started wrecking cars with sledge hammers and such was when they lost me.
Each to his own, of course.
