Lucky, you beat me to it. When I got my dish, History channel had history shows, now it's aliens and lame reality shows. Can someone pls tell me why Larry the cable guy is on History channel? Anyway, I pulled the plug on my dish and signed up for Netflix instant. At least there's always something to watch...

I don't see any appeal of the ksrdashianz or the other chunky bimbos the keep pushing.

I love Deadliest Catch, can't stand Ice Truckers.

I guess, as much as the danger and hard work that crab fishing entails, it is the personalities and interaction that appeals to me. Sure, the show is edited, probably heavily, but in the end, these guys are not actors and what you see and hear is pretty much the real deal.

First time I watched it, I'm thinking, "Gee, that's an awful lot of money to make in such a short time, wish I could get a gig like that." Now, I am getting to be, if I not already am, an old fartbag, so no way I could do it today, but after watching the show a few times, I must admit that I don't think I could have ever hacked it. I have done some pretty hardcore, physically demanding jobs, but not on the crab fishing scale.

For whatever reason(s), I still find the show fresh, something I cannot say about American Choppers, which was a favorite of mine the first few years. When they (the Tuttles) started wrecking cars with sledge hammers and such was when they lost me.

Each to his own, of course.

And this is really all any of us can say. I sometimes do find it funny when people argue about which tv show is great or which one is crap. Everyone is different and utlimately what kind of tv shows someone likes is purely subjective just like most other things in life.

I'm still trying to figure out how the Discovery Film crew had time to mount a camera on the dude's litter as he was hoisted to the USCG SH-60??? What the hell was that? Dude is convulsing, the captain just opened his fly so he could go whizz. But is time of the essence when they can mount a friggin camera on the guy as he's hoisted up?

BS...

Maybe the cam was pre-mounted in some way? I am sure neither the USCG, nor Discovery, would open themselves to some kind of negligence suit just for the sake of "drama".

Maybe a bit of editing, though.

Then again, maybe you are correct, and it is all a sham.

Amen to that! I can't understand the popularity of any 'reality' show - to me they are so patently phony.

Btw, Ancient Aliens is on History 2, which I call the Alternate History Channel. And I love that show! I work third shift and it is the ultimate "go to sleep" program. Turn it on and in seconds all rational thought leaves one's head and the theta waves take over.

The "Bigfoot As Space Alien" program is the best. I can't last fifteen minutes into that one before I'm knocked out.

Just about anything on History Channel ("Where The Past Goes to Die") is unwatchable.
