Hey all!

I wanted to take a spin in a SPAD, but when I attempted to start OFF, it said my ConfigOverrides.xml was missing, and I should re-insatll OFF. Earlier, something similar had happened with CFS3-ETO, but the message said it was "mssing or out of date. In the case of CFS3 ETO, I just copied one in from my stock CFS3 and it got back to work. But when i tried this for OFF, it erased the file! How can I get my ConfigOverrides.xml to stay put? What would make it go missing like that?

Thanks, all! Glad we're back together!

Tom

No idea what made it go missing, but the first two things you should try,
before you go through the hard way of a re-install, are

1. Reset OFF Manager

2. Reset CFS3

The buttons for both of these are in "Workshops".
You will loose your pilots with this, but it's still much quicker than
a de- and re-install .
Good luck!

Thank you, my good man. Would you believe I am STILL looking for a picture that I may avail myself of your kind offer? And a this point I only have 2nd Lt. Thomas Dirtdigger, so no loss in the pilots dept. My fresh install was my reason for starting the "Disposable Pilots Names thread on the old board!

But yeah, both my ETO and OFF files went misssing on me, and it makes no sense. I think I'll get it configured and then copy it to another safe place so I can just drop it back in.

That may not work, as OFF and CFS3 have files outside of the OFF install, namely (in Win 7) in:

(Your Computer's Name) > AppData > Roaming > Microsoft > CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields

OFF Manager needs to find relating data in both your OFF install, and above folder.
I am not sure, but it MAY be, that moving OFF elsewhere after installation, would not work.

Much better is a backup program like ACRONIS, which can backup whole drives.
I have OFF installed on the bootdisk C: where the other folders also are.
Now I only need to write a backup of my whole C: partition, and if something
goes haywire, I write the saved partition back. Works fine!

If you update your graphics driver you will get this message, cfs3config needs to be run again when you update drivers, and reconfigured - and as Olham says it's stored in Appdata not the one in the sim install directory.

See FAQ near the top section anyway - it's mentioned there.
http://www.overflandersfields.com/FAQ.htm#Installation_and_settings

Dropping the xml file back in, in this case won't work as the top part contains info relating to the new video driver. But if you are comfortable editing files it's possible to retain your current settings from the major part of the ConfigOverrides.xml if you back it up first, before running cfs3config, as it's usually just the top part that is needed for the new driver. Others may be able to help with that it's not something we can "support" directly - and if it breaks we'll tell you to run CFS3config properly.

<Config>
<FileVersion val="60"/>
<Adapter val="0"/>
<Device val="0"/>
<Mode val="33"/>
<MultisampleType val="D3DMULTISAMPLE_8_SAMPLES"/>
<VendorId val="4318"/>
<DeviceId val="4489"/>
<VersionNumberLowPart val="852102"/>
<VersionNumberHighPart val="524305"/>

this bit at the top is what needs to change normally the last 4 lines there, but bad editing can break...

But best to just follow the FAQ if you are not comfortable doing those things.

Thanks! I don't recall updating my drivers, but I wonder if my son did - he's autistic, and though I try to tell him not to install anything the computer tells him to install, things happen. I knew where the overrrides file was & I have no problem editing , it's just that I don't often know what edit to make! It was interesting though - the file was GONE - there was nothing to edit!

So I guess while I'm at it, I'll D/L the new NVidia 300 drivers that Hellshade just posted the info on. Then just re-run the config once!

Of course, what am I saying? Maybe I should just wait TWO MORE WEEKS... biggrin

Hang in there!

No problem it is also possible it just got corrupted on the drive or deleted somehow but if make a backup for those times and plop it back it will work as there are no other changes.
