Hi.

Is there any way of getting rid of the "oniric effect" when going through the clouds layer?

Or alternatively, does anybody know the name of the file for that texture? (the one used for that effect, I mean).

Thanks. Smile2

Edit: Without that effect, going through the clouds on an overcast day will be a split second affair, not realistic, I know. But that kind of "magical transition" makes me feel sick, specially when using Freetrack.

I've tried disabling "clouds transition" in preferences, with no result.

I agree that the clouds transition in JF-18 can be disorienting. I haven't ever seen a file that can change the effect, though that doesn't mean there isn't one.

Well, vertigo (in clouds and/or at night time) in real life can be even more disorienting. Every pilot knows and has lived it through in his own way a few times. For what it matters I no more get disoriented during clouds transition in JF-18 after a few occurances in the past.
wink

Thanks,
Dirk.

Er... BUMP?!
This must be the mother of all threads' refloating in humankind history. Sorry for that. rolleyes

I've finally got rid of that "oniric effect" as I call it wen going through clouds.

The file for the light layer of clouds is CLOUDSC.PCX, and uses the file CLOUD0A.PCX for such effect. Editing this last file, converting it to a square filled with the background (almost black) colour of the first one, we got this...

The file responsible for the heavy overcast layer of clouds is CLOUDOC.PCX and... problem... uses the same file for the "oniric/transition" effect.
First solution, (not very happy with it though, must work more on this later): editing such file, converting it in a light solid grey square. And we got...

As I said, not very happy with the last one, I must add some kind of dark but subtle pattern or something, so you can visually estimate the distance to the cloud layer.
But.. well, at least now I can fly w/o anti-dizziness pills. :P

If anybody interested in trying this, here are the files: https://hotfile.com/dl/156412656/744abc5/NO_dizziness_clouds.rar.html
These go into the .../NCAPE/OBJECTS/ folder (back up the original files in case you try these).

Any ideas for the CLOUDOC.PCX file will be welcome.

cheers

P.S. No, I've not been working in this for two years. hahaha

Thx, glad you like it. smile
Actually now I have like 10-12 different versions of the CLOUDOC.PCX file (the thick stormy clouds layer). Some of them made from scratch, some of them reworked from other textures files from JF18 itself, JF15 and even Falcon AF. Not sure which one I prefer, sometimes I like them all, sometimes none of them. hahaha
I'll post pics and upload the files so you can compare and give me a feedback if you feel like it.

Regards. cheers

Downloaded. It's a good reason to install JFA/18 now, first time on my current rig, thanks to Kolmo.

So far sets 2 and 4 look best to me, but it's on the screenshots.

Cheers,
Dirk.

Hey Kolmo, thank you so much for this. The clouds are the number 1 reason why I haven't played this sim very much- just so nauseating when flying through them. I have to give this mod a try.

Nice mod - went with no 2, it's a good refreshment for this sim, so thanks for the effort.
