During a Jasta 21 dogfight with French Nieuport 24, I shot one craft burning.
My screenshot caught the moment, when the pilot had decided to fall to his death rather than to burn.
What a decision to make...

I don't know what settings made it, but I had never before realised the long shadows
from the early morning sun.

Here's my first one... Jasta 2 late return to Lagnicourt airfield on Oct.30, 1916. Had to use a pocket lamp to find my tent when I jumped off the plane...

Beautiful work, gentlemen. Bravo.

I'm just anticipating how much
better these screenies can get
in WOFF.

Unfortunately, this was the last flight of Lt Ullrich Hess. On Nov 1st, his Albatros DII collided with a Nieuport 11 during a hard fight and fell down in pieces over no man's land... sigh

Here is couple of versions of a screenshot from my RNAS 8, late 1916, Campaign.

Flying as Flight Lieutenant Gregory 'Doctor' House... winkngrin

Slightly deasaturated look

I was looking at older development update screenshots of WOFF, aka OFF2...

Slightly OT, but I couldn't help myself not posting this one, showing incredible scenery
from the cockpit of a Bristol Scout... winkngrin

Thanks, all!

That is a very fine shot, corsaire - the warm afterglow on the Albatros' plywood!
Beautiful!

That "WOFF" preview screeny is great, elephant - good to see how great our airfields will soon be looking!

Here's a tableau of today's Jasta 2 sortie - a patrol east of Arras (September 1916)
which turned into a fight, when British Nieuports with Lewis guns engaged us.

Okay, here are two pics from my last mission with Jasta 28w.
The British pilot was just performing a ground attack on Ste.-Marguerite airfield,
and had not been watchful enough. I could dive very close on to his Nieuport 17.
He was hit by a terrible burst from my two LMG 08/15 "Spandau", and I suppose that
he was dead already, when the petrol caught fire - a goose-skin picture really...

Hmmm...think I will have to get this. I find RoF rather sterile, (offline that is, my connection is too poor really for online action)
I was waiting for phase 4 but those shots have persuaded me otherwise! Excellent stuff old chap

Thank you all, guys! Here is some more food. I always make the skins for my own craft,
which isn't too hard to do for OFF. So this is an own "creation" - my "Ace of Spades"
Albatros D.V (early version, with the headrest).

Great shots Olham, you have a good eye for sure.

Trooper177 -not sure Olham has painted any worn skins, but many of the 4000 or so craft skins in OFF are worn, dirtied etc.

Trooper, the original OFF skins are all more weathered and battle-worn.
Persoanlly, I am of the opinion that German officers would have treated
their high-tech craft (which they were back then) like the apples of their
eyes - clean and in best condition. Albatros were built of varnished plywood -
why should they look weathered, when they only served a couple of months?
Canvas on a rotary plane would weather a lot from the castor oil - but a
wooden plane, which they even overpainted?

You have a good eye Olham for sure.

The craft would be in all states really, many were made rapidly and with varying quality (Fokker wasn't the strictest at Quality Control <cough> for example, and some Pfalz's suffered quickly in the field).
Then you have repairs, oil, weather (hit by 100+ mph rain and cold, dirt from surroundings/fields), frequent usage and strain in battle,, and so on but no reason why some cannot be new or freshly painted etc sometimes for sure.

THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE ENGAGED ME

All alone on one of the occasional "lone wolf" balloon busting missions, I just had reached
the lines southeast of Arras, when I noticed heavy German Flak.
Four big two-seaters just came over the mud, heading for Douai.
The were only a little higher than me, and descending.
I identified them as Bristol F2B Fighters - an unpleasant, dangerous foe. So I thought I'd
better prodeed on my way to my balloon. But they wouldn't let me go! They all came down to Tango!
One approached me and fired, first from his forward MG, then from the observer's twin machine guns.
My Albatros got hit - Tac! Tac! Then the British pilot tried to dive away from me in a wide left
descending turn.
But now I fired after him in my rage - and the tank burst into flames! What a lucky, instant hit!

Well, for me it was - the Tommies found themselves in a real hellfire and jumped from the dying craft.
Only drawback - all my paused changing of angles and views made OFF crash - and so I got no claims report!
Dammit!
