Thanks Gunny. To answer about which I'm leaning to, I think I want to start with infantry, after all, you should walk before you drive right? heh

Even though it's not Wehrmacht specific, I'm thinking maybe I should hit up Maneuver Warfare Handbook first. Thoughts on that?

No actual military experience here, although I went to military academies as a young'un (Massanutten). Didn't get real tactics training, more just discipline and drill. So I'm after a basic understanding of tactics first, and be able to play closer to what real military would have done at the time, tactically and operationally.

After I figure out infantry, then move to tanks, ancillary weapons.

The Maneuver Warfare Handbook is an excellent book.

It is about the way German fought, then the Russian adopted certain aspect of it and this is (in some extent and in many ways) the way the USMC fights today.

It is not the type of tactics you will see on TV or out of Hollywood ( may be except in the HeartBreak Ridge movie in relation to organization). It is not about war of attrition which you see everywhere. I let you the delight of discovering what it is about.

I can only say one thing: "Excellent choice Sir!" salute

I gotta second it Gunny, it is a good book. My copy is well used.
Another goodie is "Science, Strategy and War" by Osinga for understanding mobile warfare. The book deals with John Boyd's ideas. Not a book of tactics but more of a book dealing with the intellectual framework behind and explaining maneuver warfare as Boyd understood it. One of Boyd's acolytes, Lind was involved in the authoring of the Maneuver Warfare Handbook.
The two books have helped me immensely.

Thanks Gunny, I read a ton on the subject and there are a few there I haven't heard of. The online book store is so massive these days! I would only add Panzer Battles by F. W. von Mellenthin. Not strictly tactics but I think it is a must read for any armor nut. Also it's a inexpensive paperback.
