Hi Gents,

(I'm almost three months into my 69 Squadron RE8 campaign and just bought the DH-4, So....)

The other day, I was standing on the mess hall veranda looking across the airfield. Inside one of the canvas hangars, I could see my trusty RE8 being readied for an Arty Spotting mission the Old Man had assigned me when I my eyes settled on the DH-4. It had only landed minutes ago by a tired 55 Squadron crew, desperately low on fuel after another long range mission into German.
An idea sprang to mind.
A devious idea.
The 55 Squadron crew were having a quick bite to eat before returning to Azelot leaving the DH-4 unattended. Unwanted. Unloved. Well, obviously the 55 Squadron crew didn't want the plane anymore or the wouldn't have left it where I could steal it. It would be wrong to refuse.

Quickly I made my way to my flights hangar (Cough# ROFeditor #Cough) and told my crew chief not to bother with the RE8 and ready the DH4 instead (Cough# Gave myself a DH4 instead of RE8 in the _Generic.Mission for the upcoming mission #Cough).

Much to my disgust, when I appeared in flight gear minutes later (Cough# mission loaded #Cough), what do you think was warming up on the apron? Not a bloody DH-4, I can tell you! Luckily for his own safety, my crew chief was nowhere to be found.

Does anyone know how to persuade my crew chief to let me fly a DH-4 or even better yet, convince GHQ by underhand means to assign a few to my squadron?

Any help would be appreciated.

Spoon

Seems to me he edited the mission file to have a DH4 instead of the Re8.

I've never tried editing campaign missions prior to playing them, I figured they wouldn't generate until just after clicking to start the next mission.

If that's the case, then the game won't recognize that. And of course the DH4 is in career mode, so if you want to fly it, then transfer to a squadron that flies it. Simple as that.

Hi Gents,

You guys take the fun out of staying in character smile

When you start a mission, it creates a file called _gen.mission. If you have a problem with a mission, they ask you to submit it. You can also use this to save a career mission (under another name) and fly it again later.

What I did was to start a career mission but in the load-out right before you start, I exited. I then used the ROFeditor to load the _gen.mission and give myself a DH-4 instead of a RE8. Unfortunately, when I went back in and reloaded the mission, I found I was back to flying a RE8.

So why am I trying to give myself a DH-4. We I've invested a lot of time with my Squadron and built up my pilot. I don't really want to throw him away and start again, and for the life of me, I can't find the transfer button LukeFF talked about. I was trying to liven up my campaign by flying something a bit different.

Hi,

nice story! i believe the problem has to do with the DH4 not being assigned to your squadron(probably confuses the program). the idea is cool--i've often wondered if it would be possible to fly "captured" planes in career mode, but never pursued the idea. perhaps the devs could come up with some solution as it would add a new element to the sim! winkngrin

Ie. The "Personal Aircraft" feature in the original Red Baron (which also allowed you to use custom colours after acheiving a certain rank)

Squadron transfers are covered in the manual.
