Do I need Black Shark 1 installed anymore? Can I play all the BS 1 stuff with my BS 2 install? I'm low on disk space and trying to free up any redundancy.

I think you can uninstall BS1 after you install BS2. If anything there should be a website with all the missions that you can download and play.

I uninstalled BS1 after installing BS2 - it works fine as far as I can tell and everything seems to be in place

After installing BS2 I could no longer launch BS1 without it asking to enter the serial number again and when I used
the the serial number supplied for BS1 and tested it was longer valid.

JimK, did you install BS2 into the BS1 folder and thus corrupt the installation?
