I've been out of flight sims for over 10 years, but just built a new computer specifically for DCS A-10C to get back into it.

My system:
Intel i5-2500k
Asus Z77 Sabertooth MB
8gb Corsair Ram
EVGA GTX570
OCZ ZS750w PSU
SSD, HD, Warthog, Saitek CRP, TIR5....

It's not going very well. After jumping in feet first, I can't get it to play any game software (A-10C, Falcon 4.32BMS, Skyrim, etc...) in high resolution on a Sony 40" LCD. The Windows desktop displays perfectly in 1920x1080, but as soon as any game software is started, the resolution drops down so low that text is very difficult to read. I can't even edit the key config in A-10C - can't find the 'trim' function! The GUI is unreadable and when committing to a flight, it kicks back to the desktop before launching the flight program. The desktop displays perfectly in high res, then back down to low resolution to fly the aircraft. In-game resolution setting does show 1920x1080, but I know its is nowhere near that.

I've tried three different display drivers, all to no avail. I've updated the GTX570's firmware, no help. Tried a different PSU as BIOS was showing a 12.576 voltage, but it did not solve the problem. EVGA support is helping, but has not resolvedg the issue and may want me to send the card in. Before I do that, is there anything I can try?

Please, experts: tell me what I've missed.

Thanks,
-Drew

a 40 inch LCD prolly has a killer high DOT pitch, making small text unreadable in games.

Windows 7 has built in auto-detect for HDTVs and will auto scale text larger.

Doesnt both A-10C and BMS have a "Render Resolution" as well as a "GUI resolution"?

It sounds like you are ready to pull out your hair there.

Try a different monitor.

Once you do get into the Options, try these settings - I'm using these for DCS A-10C with an EVGA GTX 580 -

Thanks, guys.

It is this display that is the problem. Everything works fine on different displays (for the most part). I've tried a 23" Samsung monitor or a 50" Plasma and they both run fine at max resolution. "For the most part," because I did try an older LCD and going from GUI to flight, it crashed the game immediately (back to the GUI).

It also doesn't matter if I crank all graphics settings to "low" or change the in-game resolution, the Sony is unchanged. I just tried to take a screen shot of it, then quit and when viewing the screenshot in Paint, it is perfect with no problems! I might have to take a photo of the screen to show you what I'm talking about.

I can't figure out why this computer and display just don't like each other.

Here's a camera picture of the A-10C GUI. The sim runs just as poorly - can't even read the HUD info.

Hi Well most displays like the Sony may not be compatible with a PC..

I know with my Projectors the can go to certain resolutions for a PC and can go higher if hooked to a Blu ray player..

Is this Sony LCD Able to display Graphics from a PC?? If you can post the model number and we can get a look at the manual..

Some HDTV's have a seperat port for the PC?? What plug are you using for the Sony LCD??

Thank you, sir.

...but it displays the desktop perfectly at high res and text is readable!????

It is a Sony KDL-40EX401, and I have done exactly that. Problem is: I have used my Dell XPS16 (laptop) with one of my A-10C installs hooked up to this display and the GUI works fine. The laptop doesn't have the cojones to fly the sim at greater than .5 fps, but the A-10C GUI displays in high resolution correctly.

Here is a camera-pic of the windows desktop with overlaid Sony menu displaying "1080p" and looking pretty. Start a game (any) and see the previous pic....

In other words, Windows displays fine (great!), but any game is unuseable.

Thanks for your advice,
-Drew

Hopefully you have your Manual, Please check out page 9,13 & 46..

According to the Manual you need to use the HD15 RGB Plug 15 Pin VGA Plug, but maybe able to use HDMI see Below....That is Item 6 on page 9..

On Page 46 is the resolutions you can Run..but take a note on the 1920x1080 Resolution.. here is the note for that resolution:

The 1080P timing when applied to the HDMI Input will be treated as a Video Timing and NOT a PC timing. This Affects Picture settings and Wide Mode Settings.. To View PC Content set Scene Select to Graphics,, Wide Mode to FULL and Display are to FULL PIXEL...

Now I would try that with your 1080P signal aand using the HDMI Plug that may fix the Problem.. Or you may have to use the VGA plug and may be limited to a 1280x1024 resolution for the PC?? you may get a 1080P res on the VGA Plug not sure tho??

This should fix that problem, i was getting ready to post that there must be image filters applied (as my LCD doesnt display my Xbox Properly if certain TV Features are disabled/enabled

Most Notebly "FULL PIXEL" setting.

Sorry for the delayed response (I've been flying a Warthog all day!).

All the above recommendations were already selected in the TV, but did not resolve the problem. I gave up on the HDMI stuff and used the DVI-to-VGA adapter that EVGA included with their GTX570 from the card and attached it to a standard 15-pin VGA cable to the HDTV and everything worked perfectly! I think I see a slightly reduced picture quality, but it is 1920x1080 and A-10C runs perfectly!

Still completely confused as to why the HDMI input to the TV would not work within a game, but would
work with the desktop. I'm just happy that the thing is running correctly.

...and to think that I almost pitched that Sony in the lake! attack

Thanks for the help, guys!
