I go with the fullest servers. A giant fur ball is fun. There are people who have 35 kills and never get shot down. Not to mention the guy who gets in the backseat of a bomber and shoots at his teammates. Why They do it ? But its still fun just stay away from bombers and stick to the center of the furballs.

I am a definite novice, and usually get owned pretty badly on the multiplayer servers. I almost exclusively fly on the new wings server, since it is for novices. I did notice that there were a lot of flyers with more skill than me, but I still find it really fun most of the time. However lately, almost 100% of the time, I will do fairly decent and then be killed by my own teammates. Im fairly sure that it is intentional too. The end result is that I only play multiplayer now as a last resort, if I get bored with the career. I always try to follow the established rules for the server, and its frustrating when someone intentionally team kills you. I still cant figure out why someone would do that other than just to be a jerk. I have a hard enough time trying to survive against the enemy without getting shot down by someone from my own team.

When I started flying MP I remember getting my arse shot up so many times on New Wings from this clique of about 4 or 5 Dr1 prigs (who were probably on Teamspeak), that I got into an SE5a, got lots of altitude, then bounced one of them successfully. He was flaming, then Poof! He ducked the server. Now there's a man for you...
Now I can hold my own (certainly don't consider myself an expert...), most times I give as good as I get, and I do go onto New Wings for all the reasons mentioned here. I try to fly honourably, unless I see brattish behaviour, and I am more successful than not.
What does that make me?

That's why I quit playing RoF online. I'm no sim novice. Logged far too many hours on the IL-2 War-Clouds serer and generally did well there.
When I got into RoF, I went online to New Wings to get a feel for the game. My sexuality was immediately called into question due to my choice of plane (I think I took up a Dolphin) and ran into a bunch of asshats in DVIIs who carried on in much the same way as Bandy outlined. Not my idea of fun. If the admins aren't going to police the server, why bother going on?

Mugwump, please don't mistake the rant my post. Sure, there are 'Richards' on every server, and I'm sure you had your share of them over the years flying IL2.
But that is no reason to abandon RoF multiplayer. Simply find a server that works for you/fits your taste and 'reality' level. I fly on Syndicate, Oceanic, FeoW (when operational) and have a real blast. I can't fly against AI anymore and not feel like something is missing.
Having a wingmate or two really helps, but I have never had too much of a problem joining up with someone friendly that I found while flying around.
So please, give MP another chance. PM me and maybe we can make arrangements to wing together on a Syndicate Sunday mission.

Speaking of Muli player, Why is it the server says no Team Killing, but U end up fighting 4 or 5 Dr-1's or D-7's at 1 time ? The other thing is How U can get Rammed and crash but the other aircraft just flys on . One more, Teamspeak. Voice radio never existed during that time period how is it justified in a game about WWI a/c ? Just my 2 cents of a Rant. One more time into the breach, my fellow PC Pilots.

No Team Killing means (I believe) if you fly Central you don't shoot down other Central aircraft. While getting gang raped by a flight of the enemy is never fun (we've all been there no doubt), it is historic and realistic to the period. You quickly learn to fly with others, and/or keep your head on a swivel and avoid all large flights of bogies (unidentified aircraft) that are not already engaged in combat. ALWAYS engage on your terms, have the height advantage, etc. Yeah the unintentional crashes where one exits undamaged is annoying, but it doesn't happen too frequently. Teamspeak, now there is an issue with no resolution. Yes, it is not historical, and no amount of arguing about hand signals/flares is going to change that, period. I dislike it when I am on the receiving end of a group using Teamspeak, but when I've flown with others and used Teamspeak the fun level jumps exponentially. I'm making new friends that I simply wouldn't have flying without Teamspeak. Unfortunately my vote is to accept this necessary evil. Give it a try is all I can say. Bandy out

Ok lets keep Teamspeak in WWI, But couldnt it be use to plan a raid or review the scrap ? It does seem unequal for some in a furball to have voice, over, newbies without ? while on a newbie server. Other than that I agree and thanks for the definition of Team killing.

When we fly "fun squadron evenings" on our server (Hellequins) we use Teamspeak in flight, but I would say there is 75% of chit-chat about all kinds of things and 25% of really tactical comms.... During "serious events" like some historical coop missions or campaigns we fly with other squadrons the use of Teamspeak is restricted to pre-flight and after flight briefings when everyone is on land. I must say I like both, it's two different moods...
