7970 will play BF3 on 3 screens (sans deferred AA, using shader AA only).

7950 as well, w/ lowered detail.

after considering your suggestion i think ill settle for a Asus PCI-E A HD7970-DC2T-3GD5, my last question would be can i use 3x HDMI connectors for the main monitors and the DVI->vga ones to display 2d gauges and MFDs or is preferrable to keep a separate card for that?
Thanks in advance (BTW is anyone of you interested in a pair of barely used nvidia 3d glasses ince i cant use the om the radeon setup wink )

those aren't HDMI connections on that card. they are display Port. and only 1 of those DVI ports are Analog capable.

if your gonna run Eyefinity, I recommend running all screens on the display ports as the "timing" will be the same.

The VPU has 2 display clocks, 1 for each DVI,
DisplayPort doesnt use a clock, if you mix connections (ie 2 DVI, 1 Display Port, or 2 Display Ports, 1 DVI), the screens will have different timings, causing one or 2 screens to have extreme tearing.

My plan was to use the Display ports connected to main monitors with DP -> HDMI cables and use the DVI with a vga adapter for the 4th display (kept outside the eyefinity group) can this work or should a i also buy a separate card (5450 maybe) to handle the instrument panels?
BTW thanks

FWIW. As of yesterday, I'm using Displayport cables for my outer two Eyefinity monitors and HDMI cable for the center monitor on my HD7970. So far, so good.

To do this, I bought two displayport cables with mini-connector on one end for the GPU. However, my Sapphire HD7970 came with an assortment of adapters that allow virtually any Eyefinity connection setup without buying anything extra (assuming one already has DVI, or Displayport, or HDMI cables in hand for the existing monitors).

I need HDMI or DVI for the center monitor to meet Windows Media Center DRM requirements. DVI is acceptable to Media Center DRM; however, displayport is not. There is no good reason for not allowing displayport for protected content -- as it is secure. Just a "problem" when using Media Center.

FWIW, even using a mixture of DVI, displayport, and HDMI, I had no tearing issues or artifact issues. I did have the system freeze a couple times and the note said that the card tried to use the wrong refresh rate. I did notice that the 12.4 driver seemed to give some issues to some people -- refresh being one complaint. So, I uninstalled 12.4 -- and went to 12.3 -- which folks said worked.

Seeing as DVI and HDMI Standards are no longer gonna be updated, you'd think MS would update Windows Media Center and "PlayReady" DRM.

When my card omes back I'll definately be going back to 12.3, 12.4 introduced to many problems for me to justify the Fr/Sec boost.
I got the tearing, but it was on and off w/ Cat 12.4. I've been told teh most stable drivers are RC11 or 12.5 Beta for eyefinity,

Wow indeed, since my temporary move back to two monitors, and acquiring a SiliconDust Cablecard HDPrime tuner, I now often use my PC to watch TV, it really sucks to hear Microsoft WIndows Media Center 7 will not trust my PC to view encrypted cable channels once I go back to 3 monitors if I use a display port for my 3rd monitor as I used to with my 5870 and Eyefinity:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2392252

Such a stupid DRM move, I guess I will need to make sure when I buy a 7970/680/780 that the ports combos will allow me to do 3 monitor using DVI or HDMI without need for displayport.

Thanks for the heads up.

You know, MS has a really nice Tivo alternative with windows media center 7, I use it and love it with a HTPC and Xbox360 extenders as an alternative to cable tuners for the whole house, but things like this DRM displayport issue and the recent EPG guide update issues, and the upcoming Window Media Center 8 being a pay only feature are really making me reconsider windows media center for the long term.

Way to shoot yourself and your loyal users in the foot MS, shades of Zune...

All true.

I made a CCC preset that when "clicked" shuts down two monitors and sends the signal to the HDMI (or DVI in the past) monitor. Then, Media Center works.

The Playready DRM can be as "awful" as any you can imagine -- it makes big uncorrectable mistakes in "certifying" legal setups as "illegal". I have direct experience. About 4 days ago, Playready refused to let me watch channels I'd been watching all along. Several hours of web searches and trying convoluted suggestions lead to -- A CLEAN WINDOWS INSTALL -- START OVER Sucker. Now it works again. Hopefully, Windows 8 will fix this.
