My brother loved that show and talked it up all the time. I never got into it, might have to add it to our streaming list when things slow down.

A show my wife and I got into was the remake of Hanna on Amazon Prime.

Joel Kinneman Hanna's Dad (Robocop, House of Cards) and Mireille Enos (TV's The Catch and WW Z) both were in a great series called the Killing. About 2 Seattle Detectives.

What a coincidence. I just finished watching the episodes of Hanna last night. I couldn't get into it at first, but by the 3rd installment, I was hooked.

I never saw the movie version, but it's for rent on Prime, so I may give it a go.

You should try out a couple of episodes of "Justified" It routinely stayed in the 80 to 90% critical rating range on Metacritic for every season that it ran.
It was nominated for quite a few Emmy's and won two or three times I think along with a lot of other awards. It's amazing how they kept the story arc going that long and also kept it fresh. It also has a satisfying ending for a crime drama that doesn't leave one angry with the writers.

Cheers

Saw a fun movie this weekend called "Road Games."

Hitchhiking erotic thriller, made in 2015. This is a seedy genre, derivative of Noir films from the 40s, and good films of this ilk have been hard to come by since their heyday(or badday) in the 90s. This one held my attention over the 90 minute run time, and I did not space out once, as I often do in most every film I watch. Not to say this is the best ever, but it was interesting enough that it kept me engaged. Don't be put off by the lack of subtitles and spoken french by half the characters. This is part of the experience, as the main character is English and knows no French himself. Despite this, I was able to figure out mostly what everyone was saying due to the good use of camera and directing.

p.s. Extra bonus if you recognize the scream queen who plays a decent role in the film.

I just looked at the cast list for this movie and I didn't recognize anyone.

Not an H.P. Lovecraft fan, eh? She and Jeffrey Combs are a pair. Ever watch Re-animator from the 80s? Classic.

The Dirt on Netflix. I was surprised, it was very well done. The actors got the band member mannerisms down perfectly. As a teen I loved Motley Crue's first 2 albums, They were my first concert at 17, in 1984. But Theater of Pain was a huge drop off for me. Saw that tour as well, but Motley Crue was a band I grew out of. I can listen to songs from the first 2 albums though. The rest of it doesn't really hold up for me.

The Shining https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081505/

Yup,I know it was released 39 years ago but this is the first time I've watched it. I'd seen snippets of it such as the 'Here's Johnny'! bit and little Danny riding around the hotel and the blood gushing from the elevator so it was interesting to see how they all fitted in.

I have to say it was an excellent film.I wonder how many more I'm missing out on?

What makes "The Shining" so brilliant is that you only see one person murdered on screen during the entire film. Kubrick really knew how to use suspense and tension instead of just relying on blood and gore.

The scene where Jack enters room 237 and encounters the ghost is one of the best scenes in the whole movie in my opinion.

What a movie. It's a class on how to make a film taut. And people still debate exactly what jack's role was.

I say he's been, unwittingly for his his whole life, destined to fill the role of 'caretaker' and the cycle starts again when he dies.

Watched "Top Gun" in its entirety again last night on Amazon Prime Video for the first time in at least two decades.
Top Gun: https://www.amazon.com/Top-Gun-Tom-Cruise/dp/B07NQJ13S2/

I was 21 when it came out and thought it was the coolest movie ever. Had I not been blind as a bat, by Navy standards, I might have actually joined the Navy at that time. Was already tired of the grind as a machinist.
What I noticed now some thirty plus years later was what was no longer around. The Enterprise is being scrapped, the F-14 and A7 Corsair are gone from the decks of any carrier for years now, and Mirimar has been closed as the Top Gun school for over two decades.

The house where Charlie (Kelly McGIllis) lived has seen better days too.

What I find most interesting about "Top Gun" is just how many people today make fun of it because of the dumb plot and the now infamous volley ball sequence but it's one of the most iconic movies of the 1980's and one of the most quoted movies of all time in American pop culture.

It's been being spoofed since the 90's. (Hot Shots)

The movie is definitely a 1980's thing and is an interesting snapshot of the times but imo it doesn't hold up all that well. Always thought the Charlie character that Kelly McGIllis played in the movie was contrived to be a love interest but it seems she was loosely based on an actual person.

Hard to believe that Top Gun came out 33 years ago.

1986 was a great year for sci-fi movies too.

Aliens
Star Trek IV
The Fly

I never liked Top Gun or Red Dawn, and I was the target audience, born in '71 . I'm a Big Trouble in Little China kind of guy.

I'm watching John Frankenheimer's incomparable 1966 classic Grand Prix tonight.
