Weasy if you change your setup to have the option of no pitstops it will solve your problem of having to input your fuel amount after four stops.

Wow, I didn't know that...and I've been racing this sim for years! So where you normally set up for 4 stops (or however many) you just put 0? It automatically gives you full fuel then? Plus, if I get brain dead after 50 laps and forget to call that i'm ready for a pit, will it give me full fuel if I forget to mention it to my pit crew?

G27 here, 270 degrees in the Profiler (my standard openwheel setting), 7.5 lock for the setup....if I move the wheel, the car moves instantly. I'm currently running a 6.5 lock with my setup. I'm afraid to change it now because I'm feeling okay with it. Earlier mention of time/speed scrub with any steering input it only makes sense to keep the steering input low. Too high of a lock and you'll be pinballing off the wall to the grass and by the time you save it you've scrubbed off 15-20mph and lost a second or more. It's a fine line to keep consistant speed near the wall on the straights and hitting the corners just right. Plus drafting (towing/pushing) can get very interesting (or nonexistant) if the car I'm pushing is all over the track. Another thing I noticed tonight...on a few of the turns there's like a gate or mark on the wall that's gate sized at the exact point where I turn in to the corner. On a side note...do you believe I gave up free Indy tickets this year again? I had two opportunities for tix. One was just for free tickets through my Air National Guard base, and the other was also through the Guard base but I'd have to march in the pre-race parade on the track in uniform. I was born and raised in Indiana and spent about 40 of my 45 years here and I still have never been to "the race" as we call it. I've only seen qualifying for the NASCAR Brickyard once, and did a three day weekend for the very last USGP F1 race in '07. The only time I've seen IndyCars was at Mid Ohio...and that was cool...lol.

I can run around 13-14 laps before I need a pit. Seems like you should be able to do more laps than that on a full tank...it might be my new meds... ...but I was thinking I could go 16-17 on a full boost run. All I gained by switching to 2 was some straightaway length, not another lap. Gonna have to check that tomorrow during practice runs. Like I said, it might be my new meds causing me to think that this late at night. I do attempt to save fuel whenever I can, such as start lowering the boost between T3 and T4 on my coming into the pits and not raising it back up until I'm mid-way down the back straight on pit exit, but during a run it stays at 1 on solo runs. When drafting, I can run it to 2 or even 3 some times, depending on what the person I'm running behind is doing with their fuel and the pace we're making. Also, in the race when a caution comes out....I run it up to 7 as soon as the yellow comes out as the field's frozen at that time and also run a high gear during the caution laps, just to save as much as I can. It could come down to a single lap of fuel after 100 laps.

I don't adjust my boost...I was running 1 the entire time...lol. Pit strategy and fuel runs could be the factor here. This was all by myself on the server tonight so there's a lot that will change...like drafting and avoiding faster traffic taking my line, etc.
Another thing I noticed the other night during practice...gotta try to follow MY race line instead of concentrating on the gearbox of the guy I'm pushing. I pushed a couple drivers down the straights and then got tunnel vision on their gearbox rather than knowing where I was and I ended up brushing...or banging the wall.
Luckily the damage is at 50%...however that damage adds up quickly to make you less quick....heh.

Something else to keep in mind when drafting someone....you're going to be a bit faster than normal at corner entry, so you might have to adjust your turn-in point ever so slightly. Just ran some online...counting the in and out lap for a pitstop, I can run 17 laps at 1 boost the majority of the time...that is, not adjusting my boost back up to 1 until mid-way down the backstraight and turning it down coming into T4 for the pit entry. When drafting with Stewart, I was able to squeeze an additional lap out of a full tank by adjusting the boost over a fuel run and still stay fairly close to him.

I did 16 laps on Wednesday without pitting at boost 1. Also did 16 today. Wow, oval racing is quite a thing !! Grabbing a 39.9 in qualifying but I'm still several tenths off the pace. Can't feel where I'm losing them. They must be hidden in practice

You picked-up the oval racing quick Arthur. Much different strategy than road racing but no less competitive and exciting.
Reminder to everyone - the damage is cumulative. A light scrape against the wall may seem insignificant, but it will slow you down just a tiny bit with each successive tap. At the end of the race, someone who manages to stay off the walls can make up time on a car that has had "death by a thousand cuts taps".
