Hi all

Just got my GTX 680 up and running today. I put all the settings to High and enabled SSAO. All of the free flight missions had 75+, even "down in the weeds". Only the free flight over London brought the frames down to 30=35m still very smooth.

I have the beta patch installed and the game looks amazing, much better than on my old Crossfired 5770's.

The card saved the game for me, that's for sure.

All my other sims are way smoother now as well, especially Warthog. Blackshar2 still sits at 24fps with settings set to high.

Two thumbs up from me!

Im glad it works for you. When I had dual 5850's it ran like garbage, now that I only got one I wont even try it.I will keep waiting a few more months and if they seem to get it sorted out for the majority of the players then I might give it another try.If it convinces me I might as well upgrade my video card.

Why would you do that if you wanted the best quality possible with your newer card? It works opposite than what you seemingly think.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Dirk.

It's a shader effect Dirk, as in it's meant to soften shadows (or rather it did in Crysis etc). I personally don't turn it on as it has a disproportionate impact on performance for visual benefit, but it is a subjective quality thing.

Hi Royraiden

I am also using a 5850. The Sapphire 5850 Toxic to be exact. It has been pretty good with the majority of games since I bought it as an upgrade to two 8800GTx's in SLI. My PC is also about 5 years old now and I am trying to push it as far as it can go. When IL-2 came out I thought that is it...it's had it...but then how could most other games run fairly good.

Anyhow, I just reinstalled COD again to give it another go and lo and behold it is running ok...I almost fell off my chair. It is running with the latest official patch, 1.5 something and I even popped in the smaa infector to sorth the AA out.

It is definately playable and my settings are:

Res: 1680 x 1050
Model Detail: High
Textures: High
Visual Effects: High
Forest: Medium
Buildings: Medium
Land Detail: High
Land Shadows: Medium
Building Detail: Low
Grass: On
Roads: On
Shadows: On
AA: Disabled
SSAO: Disabled
Anti Epilepsy: Disabled
V-Sync: Disabled

I can probably get better performance out of it but it is definately playable and pretty.

Here are my PC Specs:

Intel Core Duo E6850 3Ghz
4Gb 800Mhz Ram
XFX 680i SLI motherboard
Sapphire Radeon 5850 Toxic Edition 1Gb GPU
Win 7 64bit

I gave it a go a few days ago and with almost all the settings set to high I got smooth gameplay over sea.Over ground it was the same story, low fps and lots of stutters. Anyways I plan to upgrade my video card and on the same move change to Nvidia, ATI drivers have been a mess for me lately. I will probably go for a 680 like the OP unless something better comes out at that price.By the way, how did you get the AA to work with ATI? I cannot stand those damned jaggies, I hate them with all my heart lol.I rather play at 1600x1200 with AA on that on 1920x1200 without any sor of AA.

For a bit of savings, check out the reviews on the Nvidia 670s. Price point is definitely aggressive.

For AA and ATI, here's a good post on the SMAA injector - hope that helps smile

Finally got my 680 in too. Works great. My motherboard is capable of PCIe 3.0 and I saw this over at EVGA to enable 3.0 with a driver registry tweak:

Haven't done any formal benchmarking. Seems much smoother with the 680 and even a bit better with the tweak.
