With all my experiments, I've installed Windows 7 many times in several computers. However, basic Windows 7 is a "ROCK". I'm impressed by how well the installs hold up. It seems to "repair itself" after a crash (due to OC experiments for example ). One merely needs to start up and shut down normally -- and give it time to "crank" when necessary. I can see that "non experimenters" may need never reinstall. All my Windows 7 systems are kept right up to date by Windows update. I let the updates install -- often a couple days after they are released (just in case there is a bad one -- and there have been bad ones). Often, updates are helpful. For example, update just updated my Windows 7 install to make better use of the cores on my 8 core AMD FX8150 processor (that I just installed in my main system).

You call yourself a win 7 'noob' so you probably have SP1 installed by default I should think. That's good to know. I checked the box and you're right. I guess I should figure out how to see where I'm at with the updates. I think I did let it update once after I first installed it. The thing is it's been working so perfectly I never turn it on except at the start of Happy Hour when I don't feel like doing maintenance work.

Just got a new machine that had Win7, I must say that transferring files from the older Vista computer was relatively painless. Still having issues with the interface, though. But that is just me "not liking change", I imagine.

i hate it, that I use Win7 (sometimes 8 beta) for everything on my PCs, my bro's, my parents, my studio's.
then i goto my other job and it runs SP2 XP... my boss thinks its funny when i start cursing at the screen because the windows wont snap to the sides.

I've done it once so far in about a year and a half and it was a week ago.

Ditto here, installed over T-day weekend in 2009 and still rock-stable. XP would always get flaky after 2 years. On the negative side, I felt it better to stay 32-bit when I got 7, and with the stability and time needed to reload I've not gone 64-bit yet. That means DCS suffers as well as my total RAM (only get 3300 to use instead of all 4GB), but I'm just not motivated enough to take the 2-3 days to reload and reinstall everything...even being unemployed for almost 3 months now. Installed it once. Had motherboard change, numerous videocard changes, one processor change, and I even managed to migrate it to my SSD (well this was a bit tricky, but nothing special). The OS handled everything. I must admit, I am good in housekeeping, so registry and everything else is kept tidy.
