Obviously I am doing something incorrectly, but I don't know what it is.

I've tried flying a default a/c, landing, shutting down, and saving as the default flight, but still the engine/s are always running when I load a new a/c, and/or flight.

I know this is FSX 101, but I am baffled.

FSX Accel, Win7, a good heart but a slow mind.

Could someone please just walk me through the procedure?

Legend, thanks for that link, but I noticed it said "no fuel", not sure I want that?

I believe if you do the following, it will do what your asking:

-start the default flight.

-shut down the default aircraft (C-172 if your stock) to a cold-state.

-Save the flight, and check the "make default flight" option.

Now FSX should default any aircraft loaded to the "cold and dark" state, as it keys off of the default flight conditions.
