So I thought that since I never have time for the many sims and games I have installed or in my Steam Library, I might as well crank up EAW again. Couldn't install it on my XP machine with the Infogrames disc, but managed to install on my Win98 machine and copy the install over, then install all the 1.28e files from Mr. Jelly's sig repository. Got the torn wrapper screen. Searched through the forum and tried copying the CD files directly without install, applied the patches. Still torn. Searched the forums and tried both the Registry Fix and D3D Windower. Still torn. Torn to the point that I cannot even get into the CONFIG screen to try switching between D3D and Glide with a wrapper. My specs below and currently using the latest Nvida drivers 296.10 (6.14.12.9610). It runs on my Win98 machine with a Voodoo5 5500 in Glide mode (and probably D3D as well) but I don't have any flight controllers attached to that machine any longer. Any hope of getting it to run on the XP SP3 machine? Thanks in advance.. P.S. The newer Nvidia drivers may have just totally screwed things up as I have similar issues in MiG Alley, but there, the Wrappers are fine, but the game is irrevocably torn.

Hi Recluse. Welcome to our community. Rule one of installing EAW, is not to install it, but copy the whole CD to a folder on your HD. I run XP Pro, and EAW runs fine here. Then patch the copied EAW install with EAW 1.28e, and run it, Then report back, and we can then fix the other issues.

Thanks for the welcome. Honestly, the only reason I decided to mess with EAW is because of how committed and fervent the members of this forum are. First time I tried it back in the day, I was hopeless at flying it, and I don't expect much has changed in that regard, but I figured with so many folks so excited, there must have been something I missed worth checking out again.

Thanks for the clarification. Occasionally people run the windower and EAW independently of each other and think that EAW is running via the windower when it is not. As a result they still get screen tearing. The fact that yours is running in a window shows that the windower is running EAW. In a number of previous cases using the windower fixed the screen tearing, but unfortunately it has not solved your problem. Jel

Thanks for the confirmation I didn't mess very much with D3D Windower options and the readme was unreadable, so perhaps there is a magic setting. Originally I did not fill in the DLL line, but later I went in and specified the D3DHook.dll (I think that was the name..) that I had placed in the EAW folder. Same results, probably since I ran D3D Window completely from within my EAW folder and it picked up that DLL by default.

Thanks, but sadly, none of the different fixes listed in those threads solved the Tearing problem I guess the new Nvidia Drivers really don't like the graphics in such Vintage games. As I mentioned, there is a similar issue in MiG Alley and the Arcade racing game Wipeout2097. I will try to get my old stick and throttle working on my Win98 V5 5500 machine and try to get some of the EAW experience.

Sorry you not fixed it Recluse.
I wish we had all the answers, but we don't have them yet, even after all these years.
