Ok gunheads, I felt like stirring the pot.

What say you regarding the 1911 vs any other pistol?

I know a lot of people out there feel the 1911 is the best thing since sliced bread.

Tell us what you think and why

Best thing since sliced bread indeed.

From my experience with the 1911 vs some 9mm pistols, it packs a much heavier punch, while it doesn't kick as much. I actually find the 1911 more controllable than most 9mms. It has near-perfect weight distribution, is very durable, and it is just plain awesome wink Plus, it is the gun upon which nearly all pistols afterwards were based in some way or another.

Besides,

More people shoot my 1911 or my FN FNP-45 better than anything right out of the bag.
Why? Because the .45 round is fat, slow and heavy. It has a completely different push on the firearm.
The .45 tends to push back, rather than up. For comparison a .40 tends to push 'up and twist' when you shoot it.
And even the 9mm is a little snappy out of the barrel.

But the big thing on the 1911 is the trigger. I am not aware of any firearm that has as sweet a trigger as the 1911.
All others have much more 'mechanical scraping' going on, and you can feel it. When you touch off a 1911 trigger, it is surprising. As it should be. There are no long pulls where you think it is never going off.

1911 is *the* customizable platform. You can change anything, to whatever you want. Unbelievable how many parts are out there.

1911 is a thin firearm. It is a 'single-stack', which means it only holds about 6-8 rounds in the magazine. A 1911 is really easy to conceal on your body, even the full size 5" Govt model.

Sure it is a 100+ year old firearm. And that they newer guns are more reliable (IMO). However, once you *shoot* a good 1911 pistol, you will have to have one. The trigger is awesome.

I have this.
I will also pick up the new Colt gold cup when it hits my favorite toy store. I love my 45 and it will be my primary carry gun. i shoot the crap out of that gun and I would recommend it to any one.

What are the opinions on the series 80 models with the firing pin block?

My opinion is that it (the 1911 in general) is a little more demanding as far as training and practice, but that in well-trained capable hands nothing exceeds it.

Mine is a series 80 and it does not effect the weapon at all. In fact I feel a little better knowing that it will not fire if I drop it. Not that you should drop your firearm but my friends sister was paralzyed when she dropped her cz-52. So to me it is a good thing.

I have a 1911, but truth be told if it was between it and a Sig 220 in .45.. I'd probably lean towards the Sig.

My Remington Rand M1911A1, but with an after-market trigger because the original A1 trigger is way too stunty smile (and a different barrel, and sights).

But if I had to make a choice, I would chose my Sig Neuhausen P210 9mm over it. A sweeter handgun you have to look long and hard for. Swiss precision handwork at its finest.

My friend who has not shot a gun in 15 years went with me after work.
He wanted to try my pistols. So after 200 rounds through the 5 different guns, he shot the 1911
1 more time.

Here is his 7 shots out of my 1911 Kimber Warrior .45, target at 10-13 feet.
The Quarter actually almost covers over the hole.
