It's up and running... and thou I would never win it... it's actually a pretty good sim racing series of lessons... free, and highly recommended for any PS3 owner who plays any other sim race games... starts simple... left turns, right turns via the apex with a leaf... but moves up to some advance driving techniques.

(of course I'm using a gamepad with it...since it still doesn't properly support my FANATEC wheel... the layout and game engine is the same as GT5.)

I bet if they held a real life FM vs GT series, and i was invited, I'd smoke everyone from the GT series.

You might want to give the GT Academy a try this time Skate...

I'm not the fastest guy but am usually decent at finding consistent times a second or two from the fastest guys, and when I tried the last GT Academy, the top guys were running some impressive times, and I recognized a lot of the top runners as fast iRacing guys too including winner Brian Heitkotter...

So the competition is not just fast "console racers", but the professional Sony sponsored Lemans racing opportunity for the winner attracts many more serious simracers than Forza does (wish T10 took racing as seriously as Sony does).

Also IMHO the handling and FFB on GT5 (using a G27 or T500 wheel) is more realistic than Forza4's physics which tends to attract more simmers IMHO.

If it works like last year, you see the GT Academy events show up in the online events, you enter and do your best laps and the times/laps get uploaded and after a period of time there is a cut-off for the top times and the people who make the cut are allowed to participate in the next events.

Usually even if you don't make it they give out some participation prize (3 GT5 dashboard themes last time)

You will probably really like iRacing, especially with that triple monitor setup :-)

yup. 3 screens makes a huge difference in Perspective and FOV in both Racing and Flying games,

i got called a Cheater in BF3 because i could see more FoV than a player w/ 1 screen so i had a FoV Advantage and he didnt like it..

Yeah those type of people who complain about that belong playing on consoles where everyone is the same... if they didn't pick on that they'd still say your cheating or something.

Wow looks like it is different this year, GT Academy isn't built into GT5 this time, but is actually a 3GB demo you download from PSN Store.

Just finished downloading, did some laps in GT5 using my old G27 and it feels great compared to the floaty Fanatec GT5 feel. Looking forward to trying GT Academy tomorrow night with the ole trusty G27.

Yep I agree, that's why I only play competitive multiplayer games on the consoles. It's a reasonably level playing field. The hardware advantages are pretty minor in most cases. Examples being better internet connections, or maybe certain TVs or monitors that make spotting enemies easier. Not like on the PC where having an amazing rig is an advantage over someone with a lesser machine.

Is this GT Academy only for the USA?

GT Academy is running worldwide. Presumably when it comes down to the business end, finalists will be selected regionally.

I downloaded it on Monday. It's very easy to get gold on all of the first two rounds, although my top time was only about 4000th fastest in the world. There are some definite exploits required to get top times (such as taking corners with all four wheels on the grass) but hopefully PD will make sure that this isn't possible in the later stages.

I really hope they include a full lap of the Nordschleife as one of the tests. I tend to get a bit obsessed by that smile
