That's probably why he left in the first place...

I've been thinking that same thought for a wile, Nico. If he was forced out by UBI, that's one thing. To leave bacause he saw the ship sinking (thinking) then I have no respect for the man any more. I'll never know, and I doubt any of us ever will, so I'm probably stating an opinion with nothing behind it but a little frustration.

I just loaded the new Alpha and even on my pathetic system I'm getting very pronounced stutters. I had them before, but they were no where near as pronounced as this. Because of my PC, CoD's been more of a sight seeing adventurs and not much of a combat simulator, so I turned the dials up as much as my system would let me. The results though unacceptable for a modern PC looked pretty good on my rig. Certainly better than IL2 - minus the battles.

My personal 'black death' mission is the 109 E-3 flying over Calais in the quick mission folder. It's just a sightseeing flight. I practice touch and goes. Look around and learn to navigate using rivers and cities. Before I loaded the new patch I turned down the settings to a reasonable level - meaning no trees or grass. Building detail was on high, but I cut down the number of them to low, where they were medium prior to patch. Things were smooth except for the stutters that weren't too bothersome considering the setting I had and my low end PC. After patch. SIGH. Oh well.

I'll recheck tomorrow - make sure I installed correctly, though I'm sure I did it right.

I still respect Oleg. He's the only one of that crew I do respect anymore. If he left because the ship was sinking, and he didn't want to be part of an inferior product, well I respect that. At least he may have had the integrity not to try and sell something that was obviously going to be broken beyond repair. (conjecture)

Having said that, I don't feel like even his return would save these guys in my own view.

Oleg has a kid and has given a decade of his life to a very intensive industry (skipping holidays etc.) This was my main reaction to him stepping down - regardless of the reasons, he could probably do with a break. In any case, he certainly deserves it.

i still want to know what was going on at the end there. Oleg appeared in the promotional video and turned up and the launch in russia. yet he must have already cut his ties by that stage. In retrospect it looked pretty shonky. they must have realised oleg was the brand and they needed him to launch the thing, even though they all knew it was a dog.

Oleg was a perfectionist and never would have released the sim in this state, unless he was forced too. Unfortunately he wasn't the main financer, so it wasn't his call. The sim was released unfinished, but its the only way the sim had a chance to be finished.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Olegs post last week at 1C ' A little word from Oleg ' was an indication that he is back in some regard to try and get things back on track. Unfortunately the thread got locked due to people mocking his english (thinking/sinking) before anyone could ask him anything sensible. Ho Hum.

Sort out the mess that is originally his own making, you mean? Y'see, it was actually Oleg who was at the helm during those 7 or so years when CloD was allegedly under development, and how it finally came out under his project leadership isn't really anything to write home about (to say the least). So what good exactly do you think his involvement would do THIS time around?

I really don't think he was in there for 7 years.
Smokescreen on that.
Also I don't think he's Messias all alone but Oleg and the "old" team that I'm convinced isn't there anymore, now that would be something.

How about that?

It's not rubbish by the way, it is bugged to hell for sure and needs a lot of fixing, but theres enough in it to have a lot of fun.
Try it, you might like it! smile2

Even if Olegs return was even the smallest possibility I assume that he can still read so what could conceivably motivate him to come back ? Beyond smearing himself with salmon paste and jumping into a tank full of hungry sharks its about the daftest idea I have heard. There are BIG problems and the peasants are revolting. Hmm, sounds like a hoot.

On the current state of the game it is not pretty, but it is the first time the dev's have included players directly with a key testing phase. If anybody doesn't want to be involved in that they shouldn't apply the Beta, Alpha, whatever, or if already downloaded get Steam to verify their game files and revert back to the last Steam version. I would rather there be the opportunity for those who want to be involved to able to play a part in attempting to put this game right rather than causing so much grief that the developers do not do it again. Where it will lead neither I or anybody else knows but at least it is a chance.

I have no doubt Oleg was pursuing more financially stable interests during the last few years of COD's development. And many of the old team are still involved, baring natural turnover of personnel. I also doubt that Oleg's return would have much effect positively or negatively to the course COD will eventually take. I've never had any CTD's issues on my highly optimized system, so I still think there is hope that the code isn't completely fubar.

And i think you have the crux of the revolt right there, and the reason why i didn't purchase it and have turned my back on it after being one of the most avid fans.

We can't decide if the product as a whole is an alpha or a beta, its certainly not a finished product and it WAS SOLD AS A FINISHED PRODUCT!

The devs new it, the beta testers knew it, everyone knew it...... But yet they still sold it as a finished product for you guys to suffer with under false pretenses.

Now if they had done the DCS way, then there would be no recourse for a public revolt. Why on earth they didn't sell it as a playable alpha/beta with the guarantee of the finished product upon completion.

Bloody sad, and anyone who accepts it is a fool (IMO)

but then again, i didnt buy it, i more than likely will never buy it unless it, so perhaps i should gracefully give up and just keep the many fond years of il2.

Do you have the list of who's still left from the earlier projects, and their new positions/responsibilities?

It wouldn't be that hard to find out as the development crews pics and names have been posted a few times over the years. I believe the DVD's list the development crews aswell. I'm just going by past statements of Luthier and Oleg expressing the point that many of the same crew are still working with the development. BUT that's not to say they didn't lose a couple of key coding personnel to other projects, which could have easily happened. That said they may have also picked up some key coding personnel as COD is far more complex than IL-2 ever was or will be. If it wasn't there would be no need for a new game engine for COD, they could have been building the new series with the old game engine and been making a ton of money over the last five years.

Mess, is the word that qualifies exactly what going on with COD.
