Just wondering if folks are following the install prep sequence that BlackDog suggests. Looks like a good way to ensure that your game files are correct before applying the alpha/beta (whatever Greek letter) patch.

  • 1) Verify file integrity through Steam: This makes sure i have the correct files for the latest official version, ie the one before the optional patch.
  • 2) Defragment game files through Steam.
  • 3) Go inside my documents\1c softclub\Il2 CoD\cache folder and delete all files within it and the shaders subfolder.
  • 4) Extract the optional patch into the sim's main directory (if prompted to overwrite existing files, choose "yes").
  • 5) Run the sim and wait for it to rebuild the cache i deleted with the correct files for the new version.
  • 6) Run a quick mission and fly around for a couple of minutes to "force" it to load anything it might need to load.
  • 7) Exit the sim.

From that point on, it's safe to launch the sim again, test and fly. I've been following this routine through all the Beta patches and each one has been an improvement for me.

It seems to be over land where it is suffering most. Never had the micro stutter problem previously, got it now though. For me at least I think I have tracked it down to v-synch handling. Having reverted back to the pre patch version and back again (following the clear out procedure etc) It is obvious that there is a big graphics quality deficit in the new version.

I've not had a ctd with the new version but that comes at a hell of a cost. I'm done with it for today and testing has been a chore rather than a pleasure. Will do some more tomorrow but it is clear already that there is a lot to fix here.

The best patch I ever seen!

I've gained up to 5 (FIVE) fps! Oh, there are some new bugs, but... 5 fps in 6 months of patch development is simply great!!!! And it is the beta, can't wait for final release of the patch, maybe I can gain others fps!

Alright, own up. Which one of you is Andrea78?

I just got the patch to stop crashing!

I can fly with everything maxed out! With unlimited buildings there is a slight stutter over London (but these haven't been optimised yet). The engine now seems faster than RoF or DCS.

My wish list:
- Anti-Aliasing
- Smoother control animations
- Collidable trees

I can't think of anything else to improve (other than weather, AI etc.)

I think AA works now? Not sure, but in-cockpit it certainly looks different with it set higher in-game.
