I'll ping the boss about mirroring it or something. The download rate I'm getting now from that skanky looking PREMIUM/FREE/PORN! download site they used is pretty bad.

Just a friendly reminder for those with bandwidth restrictions. You can do a local 'Steam backup' of your current installation using this tool:

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8794-YPHV-2033

Then if you apply the patch files and then don't like it (or need to apply another beta patch from clean next week) then you can to a local 'Steam Restore' from a big ol backup file without having to download/reverify all the game files again (worse case) or the changes (best case).

fyi - the patch is a single 200MB .rar file that needs to be extracted over the top of your existing program files.

A watched pot never boils eh?

Was looking at Eagle Dynamics for upcoming A10 and Black Shark patches, when I spotted news about this.

I'm house/dog sitting at my Parents place so can't look into this until tomorrow (don't want to get my other half's sister to download/install this one as its not the most simple patching system. So I'm eagerly waiting the cheering if it's good or the torches and pitchforks if it's bad.

Tell us all about it folks smile

OK, initial results as this is a performance patch.

- An easy track like the 'Hurricance vs He111' before on my system on 'High' gets an average of 82 frames per second.

- The same track with the patch gets 120 fps on average, but with a much higher typical rate (i.e what you generally see while looking at the counter) of about 180 fps compared to about 60 fps pre beta-patch.

So about a 70% increase in performance on a very quick look.

This is using the internal frame counter and not FRAPS etc.

Just a first look, as don't forget this patch is really meant as a 'public system test' where we all enable our log files and then send in crashes to help make the final patch release better.

(i5@4.0, 8GB, SSD, 6970 2GB, 1680x1050 (middle screen of 3 just being used) - Texture Quality: high, Land Shading: Medium, Forest: Low, No AA)

Ok, now for the other extreme - The 'black death' track.

With everything I can find set to MAX_POWER_BASK_IN_MY_EPEEN_POWER setting (general video settings: Very High, plus x8 AA) i.e. I can't find anything to put higher, the track claims it plays back at an average of 43 fps. I have my doubts on that counter, so will use FRAPS now, as I saw quite a lot of land/tree studder.

PS I'm following the journalistic school of thought of 'not correct, just fast' here, so will continue to fiddle.

Ok, tweaked back 'black death' a bit, and it looks very nice. The (I suspect bust by the large deviation math) average frame counter on a run with these settings delivers 37 fps average.

AA - off, Texture quality: High, SSAO - off, everything else set by the global 'Very High' detail.

Now to actually fly smile

I believe I read somewhere that the BlackDeath track would not be good for testing the new graphic engine/performance as a new one would have to made with the new code.

Fearless, is there any word yet on the patch being mirrored at SimHQ.
