Lol, found muffy, it was the lassie of outer space. clicky Don't forget though that a major change with the new BSG is that the cylons were created by the colonials while in the original BSG, the cylons were an alien race which was unrelated to the colonials. That simple change allowed for radical differences in both the tone and narrative of the new BSG. It essentially changed BSG from a story of a civilization being attacked by a merciless alien race to a civilization being brought down by its creations as a punishment for "playing god".

Battlestar Galactica *Attacked by Cylons forced to flee *Stuck on a spaceship trying to get to Earth *Betrayed by a crazy scientist *Forced to deal with politicians
Stargate Universe *Attacked by unknown force, forced to flee *Stuck on a spaceship trying to get to Earth *Betrayed by crazy scientist *Forced to deal with politicians.
Crazy Scientist: Doctor Baltar vs Doctor Rush Authority figure: Col Young vs. Admiral Adama Power mad politician: Senator Armstrong vs President Roslyn
SG-1 was the best show of all of them but I lost interest when they brought in Ben Browder and Claudia Black. The shows were great when they dealt with the Goa'uld and Anubis etc but lost it for me when they started the whole Ori stuff.
BTW fixed some stuff for ya: Battlestar Galactica *Attacked by Cylons forced to flee in their fleet of ships protected by 1 *Stuck on a spaceship trying to FIND earth. *Betrayed by a crazy scientist *Forced to deal with politicians Stargate Universe *Attacked by Lucian Alliance, forced to flee through Stargate. to ONE Ship. *Stuck on a spaceship trying to get to The Mechanical Structure at the center of the universe. *Crew Relies on Crazy scientist and MMO playing MIT Drop out wonder boy. *Forced to deal with IOA, Aliens, Trying to maintain a ship that's millions of years old.

Stargate never took itself seriously enough for my taste. Same here. I've tried and tried to like it. It's got some redeeming qualities, like the long ongoing story arcs, and having the sense to recruit from Farscape's cast, but it was always a little too campy/goofy and lightweight feeling. Like the movie, it was a great idea that just kind of fizzled in the execution. Atlantis was better, but not quite right either. Universe was close, but had virtually no likeable characters (and I agree, they used too much of the BSG formula in it). I'd rather see Firefly or Farscape back, but I'll take this in a pinch. Even with including puppets, Farscape seemed much more hardcore--that's not easy to do. Better than another reality show or damned singing competition though. I'll still give it another shot, maybe they'll get it right this time. Somewhere between SG1 and SG Universe would probably be the sweet spot.

ohh i totally agree, The new BSG added a hell of a lot more and would have been a fantastic series to those who have not seen a lot of the original.
My primary reason for the retort was due to Cworths direct correlation of SGU and BSG saying they are exactly the same. In the same way you described the difference between for original BSG series to the latter, i concur and feel the same with BSG adn SGU.
Of course we can boil plots down to similarity, as i did with the new and old BSG series. as Cworth did with BSG and SGU.
My point is Ok, there are/maybe similar plot mechanics but the shows are miles apart.
Now Cworth's opinion is his to hold and i respect that. Mine obviosly disagrees. I felt SGU offered more than what BSG did in its remade status

but it was always a little too campy/goofy and lightweight feeling. That's precisely the reason why I couldn't get into the rebooted "Dr. Who". I watched a few episodes but I just found it to be too tongue in cheek and corny for my tastes.

Guess that explains why it only lasted 10 seasons but it was always a little too campy/goofy and lightweight feeling
Farscape certainly has its share of campiness/goofiness too, but while we're on the subject of campiness and goofiness, don't deny that everyone's scifi holy grail (Star Trek) had more than it's share of this trait also. Not to mention the signature late 60's over the top acting. Don't get me wrong, I like ST:TOS too, but aside from the new BSG, Firefly and SG:U, I think you can find some measure of campiness in many of the scifi series to date. Don't even get me started on Babylon 5 (Sinclair made me want to drill holes through my toes with red hot drill bit)

I'm a huge Babylon 5 fan and I even own all the DVDs but I admit that season 1 and Michael O'Hare's acting in particular was loaded with cheese.

Don't even get me started on Babylon 5 (Sinclair made me want to drill holes through my toes with red hot drill bit) Oh god yeah. You can see why he "suddenly dissapeared" in the first series. I was sorely dissapointed when they wrote him back into later series to explain the sudden dissapearance. His acting was so bad, i constantly felt that he was a relation, or someone special to either the investors or director of the series. There is no way after the pilot of the show he should have been allowed to continue in the series. Sheridan on the other hand and in comparison made a complete mockery out of sinclair.
