SyFy didnt help in that regard... Facts are that SG:U wasn't getting nearly as many viewers compared to what SG1 and SG: Atlantis were getting. It seems that a lot of SG fans were turned off by the darker tone of SG:U.

Stargate never took itself seriously enough for my taste. stargate universe???? to me that was the one version of stargate that deserved a continuous run.... but i feel it was overlooked because of the other standard and many versions of stargate. The original stargat was great and shouldn't be changed, but atlantis was exactly the same different setting. Universe put a more gritty feel and realistic action in and to me was the natural evolution of the series. To bad many didn't try to experience it. Universe was the worst show to ever come out of the Stargate series.Nothing more than a Battlestar Galactica clone and that show was bad enough it did not need a clone made. I mean lets compare base plots of the two shows.... Battlestar Galactica *Attacked by Cylons forced to flee *Stuck on a spaceship trying to get to Earth *Betrayed by a crazy scientist *Forced to deal with politicians Stargate Universe *Attacked by unknown force, forced to flee *Stuck on a spaceship trying to get to Earth *Betrayed by crazy scientist *Forced to deal with politicians. Crazy Scientist: Doctor Baltar vs Doctor Rush Authority figure: Col Young vs. Admiral Adama Power mad politician: Senator Armstrong vs President Roslyn SG-1 was the best show of all of them but I lost interest when they brought in Ben Browder and Claudia Black. The shows were great when they dealt with the Goa'uld and Anubis etc but lost it for me when they started the whole Ori stuff.

I got to see SG1 and a few episodes of Atlantis before I moved to Belgium, so not seen 95% of Atlantis or any of Universe. I did see a boxed set of Atlantis in the supermarkt last Christmas but when I went back for it, it was gone. Before I get any more boxed sets I will have to extend my shelving as it is over flowing as it is. I think SG1 took a down turn when Ben Bowder joined it, but I did like the interplay between Michael Shanks and Claudia Black, sometimes it felt like a Farscape Revisited show

I must admit that the character played by Rush immediately struck me as being based on or at least inspired by Baltar.
I mean, c'mon! Both actors in question are British and they had similar hair styles. lol

I mean, c'mon! Both actors in question are British and they had similar hair styles. lol what can you say. English are evil On a real note, I think the similarities lies in the portrayal of personailties of the respective actors (personality traits are something that we can easily see in others). The actors plot themselves i feel differ. Universe was the worst show to ever come out of the Stargate series.Nothing more than a Battlestar Galactica clone and that show was bad enough it did not need a clone made.

Well opinions are like ar$eholes, everyone has one and they all smell a little different. I can't agree. Battlestar gallactica was a rip off of the original. Star gate universe tried to do a different spin in the stargate world keeping the original cannon/fluff. Sure you can dilute any movie to a point were the plot is simplified to resemble another, but for me the two show had two rather different dynamics.

Battlestar gallactica was a rip off of the original. Usually the term "rip off" has a negative connotation so I'd like a bit more clarification on what you mean. The new BSG obviously used the same INITIAL premise as the original BSG but as the seasons passed on, the new BSG became more and more different from the original show. There are a multitude of themes explored in the new BSG that were never even touched upon by the original.

Of course the new one (BSG) had more to it than the original... (though the original had the weird mechanical dog, i think its name was muffy or muffet),
But as Cworth generalised the plots between BSG and SGU, in the same token you can easily say that BSG was a blatent rip off of the original.
The plot of the original BSG (i for one have seen just about every episode and movie). Was, the invasion of the cylons, the destruction of most of the humans, and what remains is the galactica leading a rag tag convoy to the mystical earth. Then galactica discovers pegasus, pegasus plays the key role of keeping resources low to encourage the galactica to stop running and engage the cylons in an offensive attack. Galactica eventually makes it to earth and its 80'sh time line in their funky looking bikes that can fly, with the threat of cylons finding them.
Sound familiar ?
OK, production values back then meant most of the battle scenes were repeated over and over again and what they could do on screen limited the plot somewhat and the new version took modern technology and scriptwriting and evolved it a bit more. But in essence its pretty much the exact same plot.
Stargate universe did not redo SG1, it added to it continuing the story. Ok, modern plots can be similar in todays movies, tv series etc, but i felt it was a great evolution to the show.
