Last night I installed my old components into a new Corsair 550D case. Everything seems to work aside from the two front USBs on the new case. My motherboard is an ASUS M3N78Pro and does not support USB 3 (or at least I doubt it), so I used the USB3 to USB2 converter provided with the case.

However, whenever I insert a USB device Windows says the device can not be recognized. This makes me think the USB 3 to 2 converter is not working and the USB 3s on the front of the case are... or else I would not have even gotten the notification in Windows, correct?

Or does it sound like the front panel USBs are not working? Any input would be appreciated.

When I built my last computer, I hooked up the front case ports, which are USB 2 to the extra USB 3 header. They did not work then. So there is some physical difference between a USB 3 and 2 port. I went back and hooked them up to the USB 2 header and they started working.

So if the ports are USB 3 and you try to hook them up to a USB 2 header, I imagine the same thing would happen.

I ran into the same problem so I orderered another one. It seemed DOA too, which seemed a little coincidental. After some digging and reading the specifications, the problem turned out to be that the USB 3.0 adapters require a PCIe 2.something slot, 2.1 I think slot. The motherboard I was using only had PCIe 1.something in it.

Anyway, it's worth a check. It's a real mystery when you first run into it.

I unplugged the converter and plugged it into another USB slot on my motherboard. Originally it was the top blue one, now I plugged it into the middle one:



Whereas last time I got a compatibility error this time I get nothing.

As for PCI I have the following:

1 x PCIe x16 (Support PCIe 2.0 / 1.0 Architecture )
2 x PCIe x1
3 x PCI 2.2

OK I just checked the Manual the first Blue Port is a COMM port the Red one is a 1394 Port ad the next 3 are the USB ports that is problly why it does NOT work you are plugged in the wrong port..

Try One of the Last 3 blue ports after the red one..if it does not work still you may have screwed something up by plugging into the other 2 ports????

Sorry if I was not clear, but I tried the top two blue ports (not the light blue/red one above them). I still have 1 slot to try... the top blue/USB one was what I had used for over 3 years so I am not sure why that would stop working all of a sudden.

I'll try the bottom one. Other than that I think I might need to try a new converter.

what converter are you talking about??

USB3 Headers should have 19 Pins *(20-1), USB2 headers have 9 (10-1).

they should not be going into each other's slots.

On the left. Tried it in the final (most bottom slot) and I get the same not recognized error as the top one.

This is the error:

perhaps the plug is defective?? is that the plug for the case???
