I hadn't seen the show when I first saw Serenity at the theatre. Yes, it is fantastic (though I wish Whedon didn't feel the need to have the actors say something cute every 5th line...1/3rd the amount of jokes would have been fine). Perhaps because it tied up all those things that could have run for three entertaining seasons as a TV show so quickly. Or because of the completely unnecessary and cheap deaths, surplus to plot development requirements. peppergomez Veteran Registered: 05/21/02 Posts: 14304	I didn't think the deaths were cheap (though one was cliched somewhat) or unnecessary. The more shocking death was pretty powerful when I first saw it. If anything, having the heroes emerge from countless perils unscathed is cheap, and Whedon doesn't work that way, which I think makes the dramatic stakes higher, which is good. The Operative was wiping out every place Mal ever took sanctuary or hid out, in an attempt to draw Mal out.
