I can't even begin to comprehend why there is a problem with the oxygen system in the F-22. What is it, 70 years or so since pilots have been using oxygen? Did they re-invent the wheel with the oxygen system in the F-22 or what?

They are using a more compact design for the OBOGS now, and it also does some other things. Mind you, they can`t figure out why they`re having these issues either. Some people suspected that some of the problem F-22`s were started up inside a hangar, which is a no-no for an OBOGS system (it sucks in plenty of CO/CO2 AFAIK). I can't even begin to comprehend why there is a problem with the oxygen system in the F-22. What is it, 70 years or so since pilots have been using oxygen? Did they re-invent the wheel with the oxygen system in the F-22 or what?

Carbon Monoxide was leaking into the oxygen. which is basically the same as sitting in a garage with the door closed and car running. I dont think the designers planned on the aircraft being spooled up and idling inside the hanger during pre-flight, but it was having issues during flight as well.

Never liked lockheed they make nice looking stuff but thats it. Yeah, they hardly ever turn out any good planes. P-38, Constellation, Hercules, U-2, SR-71. No good at all
