Today I got the newest edition of the "Luftwaffe im Focus" magazine, which sports photos from mostly never before published sources.

In the current edition, there are some pics of a Ju 88 A-1 of 1./KG51, the special thing about this plane, it had two flamethrowers attached under the rudder and in one wingtip. It was designed as a defensive weapon `cause the burning oil produced very intense smoke.

Test with a Me 109 showed, that even at 150 meters distance, the windshield was covered with soot in short time.

There is even a claim of bringing down a Spit on Aug. 19 `40 NE of Portsmouth.

I read about this a while back. The experiment was discontinued as it was discovered that the sight of flames projecting out of the aircraft drew RAF fighters like moths to a flame... all too literally!
