Hi All.

So my pc on start up asks me to install driver disk for my 9800 card. I don't have it so I try and install nvidia drivers.. I've tried several versions and it seems to load every thing and then just before it's finished the setup program says it has failed and stops the install. I tried to install in safe mode, in admin mode and regular. I even did a system restore to a time whne the card was in and working...

No go.

also it seems that the pc doesn't recognise my card although when the little 'found new hardware box pops up in the lower right i correctly names it as a 9800 card//

Any ideas? Thanx

ps I am work so I regrettably dont have the pcs specs handy, it is running xp sp 3 though.

If it's a 9800 card, it would need ATI/AMD drivers, not Nvidia.

There are both ATi and nvidia cards with that name, but since the ATi cards are older AGP stuff, its most likely nvidia. As the card is reasonably old anyway, you might want to try XP drivers from a few years ago. You can find a bunch of legacy drivers here:

A WHQL certified driver might be the safest bet.

Hmmm, I would turn off the machine and take the card out and reinstall it. Sounds like it might not be making contact. I have had to do that a few times.

I was thinking of the old ATI 9800 Pro AGP, not the 9800 GTX.
