Part one of an interview with Steven Hood: http://www.videogamer.com/xbox360/f1_2012/news/interview_with_f1_2012s_steve_hood_part_1.htmlQ: On a technical level, what have been the big hurdles for F1 2012?SH: I'd say there have been two big hurdles, one of which is the updates to the physics engine that we wanted to do… Q: You mentioned that. What's going on there?SH: Well, we closed 11 out without a physics programmer, which is a bit of a problem on a racing game!

Lugs, I was just about to post the same picture. And, this coming from a company that recently announced it was only going to do racing games. I sure hope they get a physics programmer before they start.

Oh, no worries, they have one now.
Which led to this absolute gem just a few sentences later:
The wheels are in contact with the ground a lot more and you suddenly get a lot more feedback. They're doing the right things, which means when it gets sent off to other departments, like the audio team, they're getting the correct inputs to their system. When you start to slide we can play the audio at the right point and you think, "Ah, I'm pushing the envelope here now". Previously, it wouldn't [work like that], they'd get these weird numbers and go,"When do we start putting in the screeching noise?"

Nah they don't need one, they did great without one...

Well I still like F1X but in general terms they make a good show of being all around incompetent...

Well I still like F1X but in general terms they make a good show of being all around incompetent... Agreed. The games had enjoyable moments, but certainly weren't without their share of quirks. Now I kind of understand why.

If their success streak continues, they might be able to eventually hire an AI or netcode guy...

I have F1 2010 and I still enjoy it very much. Last year I thought about getting F1 2011, but kept putting off that purchase. I am pretty sure I will purchase 2012 upon release in Sept.

I suppose I could drive as Button and enjoy punishing uglier cars...
Nah, seriously, maybe if 2011 drops a bit more in price - I do admit that I would enjoy KERS and DRS to play with, as well as the better color palette.
OTOH I've tons to learn yet in 2010 and haven't touched half the tracks there.

I got 2010 when it first came out, swore I wouldn't get 2011 after the one patch debacle. Well, I gave CM the benefit of the doubt and got 2011 when it first came out, swore I wouldn't get it after seeing it's Mario Kart physics. Now, I know why it sucked. Hell, the one part of the game I enjoyed was the Career mode and they diminished it in 2011.
I damn sure won't be getting 2012 unless I see it for 5.99 or less on Steam. By the time they get it done, I'm sure I'll have plenty of other racing choices to keep me more than busy with pCARS, rF2, AC and whatever great mods pop up between now and then.

I bought F1 2011 and Dirt3 when Steam had a special going. I lasted about 30 minutes with each and parked them. One of my biggest problems is the User Interface with both. There was a time when I hated the thought of using a mouse(many moons ago). Now it's mandatory that I use one! However, with the UI as it is, even a mouse would take too long to get you where you wanted to go.
And then there is the physics....
Speaking of Dirt3, I wish someone would produce a proper stand-alone rally sim.

Always a good suggestion, BUT... RBR is 7-8 years old now. We haven't had a "quality" pure rally sim since. I agree with LowellJewell, I wish someone would make a new one.

I know it is not everyone's cup of tea/coffee/hot beverage of choice, but I don't see why WRC and WRC2 don't qualify as "quality pure rally sim".
It drives better than Dirt3, it has more stages, more countries, Group B cars and no X-Game stuff.

Their approach to code a racing game leaves me to compare them to the Andrea Moda F1 team of 1992.
