Hi all

I know some here are playing SBK-X or SBK 2011, so a bit of info for them:

Already in the past I had written here that the Full Sim mode was driving me nuts, because it required very fine control to avoid dropping the bike on the front brake and leaned over, and yet the Xbox360 pad I was using since ever simple did not give this fine amount of control. Short of using a wheel or Stick which feels very wrong for a motorbike sim, the gamepad was the only option though.

So I was stuck with a game "uncontrollable" on realistic difficulty, and too easy on the next lower setting. Very frustrating.

I tried to improve the situation with the Microsoft Wireless Speed Wheel which works fine on computer - but has a huge deadzone in SBK-X. Shame really because it's a cool bit of kit and very precise, but this huge center deadzone is supposedly in all games that detect it not as wheel but as gamepad.

So today I traded in that Speed Wheel for a Razor Onza Tournament 360 Gamepad.

It presents itself absolutely identical in buttons to an XBOX360 pad, so works in any game made for it. But what a difference in detail!

The analogue sticks have a perfect return to center, nearly no deadzone in raw values and can be stiffened/loosened in their center spring. I put mine almost on full stiff which gives very precise and exact control.

Suddenly I can run lap after lap without crashing were before I was struggling to complete one or two laps in a row.

Not sure if other companies (Logitech or Saitek?) also have a "high precision gamepad" in the offering, but this thing certainly is a good compromise for racing titles where you don't want to use a wheel.

I use that on the pc. I like the rubberized coating and the quickly programmed extra shoulder buttons.
My only complaints are that you can't program the shoulders to the triggers or D pad. The triggers aren't shaped right, they're at such an angle I end up pulling them with the side of my finger. Would be nice if it were heavier and wireless, but it's good to have something wired around for reliability.
I love the sticks and the tension. This is the first non-MS controller I've liked.

I'm having a slight issue where once every 40 minutes or so (randomly but infrequent) the game will switch to external cam and pause, as if the pad was sending a signal.

But that reminds me that my Thrustmaster wheel also has this, where it occasionally jerks.

Possibly I shouldn't run the controllers over the powered USB Hub...

Other than this issue which might likely not be the Pad's fault, it is a mighty fine bit of kit. I just opened System Control Panel - Game Controller Properties, put the mouse on the center position and moved the sticks around. This is really perfect return to center.

thanks for the info!

I cannot run ANY motorcycle game (regardless of gameplay options!) due to my lack of precision with input devices! LOL I will look into the items in your post.

Happy if it helps.

I still can't finish an 11 Lap race in SBK-X FullSim without dropping the bike, but that comes from overeagerness and refusing to brake early enough. The control detail is now definitly there in the Razer pad, I just need to use it properly.

How do you find the triggers? I picked one up the other day and had a look, but didnt play with it. The triggers didnt have much play/movement. Is it good enough for racing sims? Is it only the adjustable sticks that you like about it?

I admit I never use the triggers for gas/brake as it's "weird" to me. I would say they have decent travel compared to the normal one, and they are pretty precise from the controller window.

But I do think the sticks are more precise than the triggers, which I actually use to shift up/down.
