Yes as it turns out most SAMs I encounter feature "bang bang" targeting as well. You flying tonight?

I was thinking about it, I'll stop by in a few minutes (USAF has scheduled tanking over us for the next 45mins).

Looks like TS is not back up yet.

Will need to revert to Text Chat. My Text Chat is Tab, some versions of the sim use Alt-M or something.

I'm in now, Fulda Gap... Hunting sans TGP. And labels. And external views. There's an SA-19 stalking me if anyone wants to help find him..

Yeah it snuffed me about 3 times... An SA10 gobbled up TC and GG to my understanding- might be a bug because there was no warning on the RWR. I was looking for some pretty well dug in bmp3s sculking around a cluster of buildings and could get close enough for VID. Took a couple of runs at it and then the smoke went out and I got disorientated and wandered into the sa19 while I was looking the other way.

If I go in there tonight and see nobody around I might switch over to white bird- we can start beta testing WCs latest mission! Expect it!

Yeah, Eno's right, no warning at all with the SA-10 launch.. Kept me in the weeds afterward. I'll tell you, as much grumbling (pun intended!) as I did seeing no tgp and no labels, Fulda is intense. Going toe to toe with a SAM at a time, kinda baiting em (I ran one SA-19 out of missiles hehehe) and figuring out what angle to approach from, just barely seeing em on the Mav display, "there he is, come on, lock up... bingo, and Rifle!" whoooo man it's exciting. I killed both SA-19s and the SA-8 near them without getting hit once. This misery DOES make you a better pilot. Also I REALLY see the benefit of TrackIR now, it's very hard to: find a group of tanks, turn away before they shoot you, extend, set up an attack while turning the jet but keeping em in view before turning so they're in the HUD and running in. I messed up about 10 runs just because, while I was ready to shoot, I couldn't find the target again.

No big deal... Got a chance to cut my teeth on white bird-

Unfortunately an SA10 nailed me after I was about 30 minutes in- with no warning whatsoever.

To WC- Initial impressions:

1) The weather... it is an interesting challenge- to go over top of it means you're eating a SAM handwich while to go beneath it makes for a very lonely feeling flight. I'm not a fan of it (the storm) so far- and it's a loooooooooooooooooooong mission. I'm but one man- so I'll leave it to the masses but it may be on the heavy side to start.
2) If you miss the text updates can you go back and review them or are they gone for good? Might need someone on the ground on a frequency who broadcasts the location- though not sure how you do that.
3) I think until they work out this SA10 thing we might need to stricken them from the book. But it got me to thinking about phased array systems that can actually use search modes with enough accuracy (because it's instantly upated- no sweeping) to track. I know some US systems benefit from something like this and the advantage is that even when "tracking" a radar doesn't present enough of a change in frequency to trip off the RWR. I wonder if it's because these radars STARE in all directions that they are able to track while in a search mode-

Sorry guys- I'm just trying to figure out why something so glaring would have flown under the proverbial radar for so long. I may have my systems mixed up- but I know some of the more modern ones had something like this. Whether its as advanced as the US side- one thing the russians figured out was SAM technology so it was worth a shot.

I ate the green weiner as I was starting to settle up targets at the waypoint airfield he was expected at. I was busy on the TGP enjoying the peace and quiet when suddenly there was a boom and I was spiraling out of the sky. Pretty annoying but that's the game sometimes.

Anyway, I wish I had more feedback for you WC but so far it seems solid but REALLY spread out. I looked at the map and started zooming out and felt a bit overwhelmed. I'm going to sit on it and see if I can come up with something more constructive- and believe me what I'm saying isn't being critical of your work- but I've seen what user feedback did for your other missions and I'd love to see this one grow the same way.

Talk soon!

Because it's only 4 hours I'll probably put Fulda back up... it will last the night and I'd like to take another stab at it tomorrow.
