I picked this up a few months ago on a great Steam sale (I think I paid $7.49 for it). I had read Chuck's great review HERE! and remember thinking it looked like a fun game.

I'm still on the first mission, playing on the "Experienced" difficulty setting (and I have no idea what I'm doing). I just wanted to comment that the production value of the game seems very good. The storyline/premise seems quite good (I love a good oil war) and the sound, cinematic story, and intro are all really well done. It almost has a Peter Berg "The Kingdom" feel to it..

Anyway..looking forward to the gameplay and the story.. smile

Good luck... ya, I didn't think it was a bad game, but a lot of other people did. vehicle action is ridiculous, and some of the missions are way out there, like timed event... but if you can play the campaign and succeed, you did good.

Next, wait/look for a sell on OFP: Red River... the better, more tactical, less timed event version... starting with a war against terrorist and moving to a war with China.

GL... it's not perfect, but playable.

I loved the game and much preferred it to the utter dreck that was Red River.

I have to agree with Pfunk. I enjoyed both (mostly in online COOP mode, but also in SP) but preferred Dragon Rising. Dragon Rising also has vast community mission support. The lack of a mission editor in Red River made it very much a one trick pony.

Have to agree. OFDR is slow to start, those first 3-4 missions just aren't all that enjoyable. The later ones are excellent. I love the one where you rescue the pilots and have to escort them to the extraction point, and securing that point. The one that's mainly observation at night to laze (lase? Laser?) the target and assassinating the enemy commander...and extracting...is even better.

In Red River, it was like a typical ubisoft production with an F bomb every other word. I can't comment on the entire game since I only did a few missions, but they were pretty dry "stop, shoot a few, get on the truck...repeat" type missions. The annoying banter that was blissfully absent in OFDR annoyed me to dropping the game.

I do wish OFDR had more guns with options for scopes etc., kind of sucks having to pick up a Chinese rifle.

My 2˘:
Play through the game quickly on the easy setting, just to get the missions unlocked. Then replay the good ones on the harder setting.
