I'm fairly new to LOMAC FC2. I've had it for a couple of years but only played it a few years back when I got it and recently for a few weeks since I got a new 'puter. I've never played Multi-player (MP).

My only experience with MP online was with Mechwarrior back around 2000. It was a blast.

So far my experience with LOMAC FC2 MP is a bit confusing. I've jointed 6 or 7 games this weekend and it appears there are two very different levels of players. Some players can hardly fly. Some drive through the infield, their flights are very jerky and erratic. Then there are some people who probably fly very well and sit and wait for newbies like me to show up and shoot down with their superior use of radar and weapons delivery.
Which is fine ... I'm really not complaining about that part. I need to learn and the best way is through learning by mistakes.

Is this the nature of flight sim multiplayer online gaming? Its really ok with me, I just want to find out if this is the norm.

I've been requesting from the control tower, requests for taxi, requst for takeoff, etc etc. Mwhaahaha, I haven't made it to where I can request landing. ... the learning process it is

In Mechwarrior, the difficulty level was much lower; it was easier in other words. Flying an F15 or a Mig is much harder.

just observations and a request for input

thanks

Except for a very brief period long ago, I have never enjoyed pure adversarial Multiplayer. Some would say it is because I suck...and some would indeed be correct smile

The way I have enjoyed MP in flight sims and tacsims as well was to hook up with a 'band of brothers' in cooperative mode. (Humans vs. AI). Thus, the MP experience without the intense competition. If you like competition with other humans, than Team vs Team with that band of brothers would bridge the gap. I guess this is why formation of CLANS is so prevalent, and probably represents the dominant form of Multiplayer gaming.

Really too bad the Mechwarrior series never had any COOP play, except for some mods for Mechwarrior 4 which pretty much just added waves and waves of enemy mechs to the standard campaign scenario.

Thanks for the input. I'm glad it wasn't just me.

I tried to hook up with another plane and just be their wingman but I couldn't seem to get close enough to anyone on my side before I got blasted. Team play would make it much more fun and realistic. I'll look into clans or teams after work.

Mechwarrior is suppose to be coming back in multiplayer only. In the old days you did play as teams even on the open servers and people tended to help each other out except for the occassional rogue or kid who liked shooting his own team mates. There were many clans in MW too who would play other clans on locked servers.

I hope to find similar situations with Lomac FC.

thanks again and have a good day

Co-op is one of the strengths of multiplayer in DCS/FC, and is the best way to learn and enjoy the game if you are new to it.

The newbie-ness will be oozing out after this. I've searched and found DCS A10 and other links for Eagle Dynamics and Digital Combat Simulator; but how does that lead me to playing Coop?

I searched and found where others asked the question and it was referred to DCS again.

I'm assuming its a scenario where you have 2 or more planes players can fly and fight as a team. I also assume you will play by TCP/IP address. (like Steelbeasts which is the only other game I've played mulitplayer ... many solar cycles ago ... when SB was first released)

If there is a place you can point me to for reading and research please send me there so you don't have to type a long explanation.

This path is where I want to go. I like simulating real world flying: requests to the tower, taxi to take-off, landing, ... basically fly and fight the way real world pilots do. (although I'm not up on all the jargon between pilots and tower ... I have landed going against traffic)
I do like having the option of no cockpit because IMHO the situational awareness of a cockpit on a flat TV screen seriously reduces a pilots ability to look around whereas in the real world he has much better vision. But, its not a must, I can deal with the cockpit being locked.

thanks

Not sure but I do not think you will be able to coop with the A-10C and FC jets until DCS World and FC3 are released.

Thanks for the input. I've been on a few different servers and found I either get blasted from the sky before I even get a radar blip of an opponent, or nothing is going on. I've been practicing landing on other people's server. I get a feeling of accomplishment that way.

later

As I said above, pretty much the only way to get what you want is to make contact with some like minded friends and start private COOP games, or at least meet up on the same server. Don't have A-10C so I don't know what exists as far as COOP missions, but this is possible with LOMAC/FC/FC2 for sure, though, it doesn't seem that a lot of folks are putting much effort into building pure COOP (human vs. AI) type missions. The Mission Editor has some rough spots (FC2) but it is still relatively quick to put something together.

Falcon4 Allied Force, BMS 4.32, Janes F/A-18 are other 'modern' jet sims that offer the same possibilities. There is also a pretty dedicated if small community flying Total Air War as well.

That sort of experience is pretty typical. Your SA basically sucks, and it will improve as you continue playing. How good it gets - that depends on a bunch of things, including how willing you are to do some book learning, digging through past posts regarding BVR/Radar operation, and other subjects. It takes time.
