My first post sorry it's a problem one.

Right I have had the game about a week and thought I would ramp up the difficulty.

I have selected CEM and Engine Temperature Effects.

I try starting the Hurri

I do the following:

Fuel on (main/Res)
Mag switches on
rad closed/open
Mixture rich ... (forward or back?)
Throttle about half way
Pitch fine ... (forward or back?)
select engine

Engine turns over ... smoke and flame and then stops
Repeat a number of times and never fires up.

So Gents what am I doing wrong?

PS works OK when Engine Temp not selected.

Hi Raffy!

Perhaps a bit too much throttle on a cold engine?

Is your Spitfire start-up much like Freycinet's (excellent) video here?:

Hi Fearless thanks for the quick reply.

I have watched the above vid a few times already. I have tried various throttle positions as well as various combinations of pitch, mixture, and rad flap position to a point where I am becoming confused.

Mixture ... is it forward or back for 'rich' I have read posts saying it's the wrong way around to what it should be?

I was also wandering if I had deselected something whilst setting up the keys?

I have also been through the check list.

Is the priming of the engine by pumping fuel simulated?

For the Spit Mk1 for mixture rich then it's fully forward I believe. The hurricane is the other way around, just because the RAF felt like pilots were really an operational hindrance in the pursuit of good aircraft maintenance. smile

The pitch should be set to fine. Give the throttle about 10-20% max but let the temps rise before doing anything, i.e. an oil temperature over 80 30.

Edit: You don't have to worry about fuel pumping, and infact I think the magnetos are really just for show as well.

Yer ... I found that about the mags. I have just bought myself a CH throttle quad and I can not resist pressing a couple of the switches for mags. smile

Btw, a quick tip is just to put the autopilot on during a full temp/CEM start-up and watch where the all the levers and temps get to. Once you've seen it once or twice it just becomes 2nd nature - although a 'start warmed up' setting would have been nice sometimes.. smile

Fearless, good advice as always, but the oil temperature only needs to go to about 30 to start. Do you normally watch the water temps, or do you get to read a short novel while waiting for the oil to get to 80? smile2

Oops, yep - wrong gauge, Oil at 30, while the water is healthy with an open radiator at 80. To stop the oil heat it's really just a case of not rev'ing the thing to death all the time and using the pitch to keep it below 27'ish RPM sustained.

You mean like in my latest vid? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlQpPw3Bom8#t=0m36s

- You unlock pre-warmed engine for all planes by looping the loop with the He-111 (cem and temp effects on).
