For the Spit Mk1 for mixture rich then it's fully forward I believe. The hurricane is the other way around, just because the RAF felt like pilots were really an operational hindrance in the pursuit of good aircraft maintenance.

The pitch should be set to fine. Give the throttle about 10-20% max but let the temps rise before doing anything, i.e. an oil temperature over 80..
Edit: You don't have to worry about fuel pumping, and infact I think the magnetos are really just for show as well.
